Senior Tax Accountant

AEGIS Insurance Services, Inc. ("AEGIS") has an immediate opening for a Senior Tax Accountant to serve as a key technical contributor within the Tax Department by leading assigned tax accounting, compliance, research, planning, and process improvement activities. This role provides day-to-day technical guidance to junior staff, supports high-quality work product, and helps scale the tax function as AEGIS expands its domestic and international tax activities.

Job Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of progressive corporate tax or public accounting experience, including ASC 740 provision work
• Insurance industry tax experience desired
• Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA desired
• Experience with federal, multi-state, and selected international tax compliance
• Ability to independently analyze tax issues, develop conclusions, review work, and provide guidance
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced proficiency in Excel
• Demonstrated experience with tax software; experience with automation, analytics, or AI tools desired

Essential Job Functions:

Tax Accounting and Provision

• Oversee assigned quarterly and annual ASC 740 provision components, including calculations, analyses, documentation, and review coordination
• Prepare and review current/deferred tax calculations, return-to-provision analyses, valuation allowance support, and related schedules
• Analyze significant tax adjustments, uncertain tax positions, tax law changes, unusual results, and variances; develop recommendations for management review

Federal, State, and International Compliance

• Lead preparation and review of federal, state, local, and selected international tax workpapers and filings
• Research tax issues, analyze tax law changes, and develop supportable technical conclusions
• Coordinate with external advisors and internal stakeholders on assigned compliance matters

Research and Analysis - Technical Research and Documentation

• Independently evaluate tax issues, regulatory developments, risks, opportunities, and alternative treatments
• Research tax issues and support the development of technical documentation and analyses.

Planning and Strategy - Strategic Initiatives

• Support tax planning, transfer pricing, audits, and other strategic tax projects as needed.
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives with Accounting, Finance, IT, Legal, Human Resources, and external advisors
• Contribute to strengthening tax governance, risk management, and operational effectiveness across the organization

Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement - Process Improvement and Technology

• Improve efficiency, consistency, and quality through process redesign, automation, AI, analytics, and tax technology tools
• Assist in the development and maintenance of department procedures, controls, and documentation
• Serve as day-to-day reviewer and technical resource for junior tax staff.
• Review workpapers, calculations, and analyses for accuracy, completeness, and technical support before management review
• Provide coaching, feedback, knowledge transfer, and training support to build departmental technical depth

We expect to pay a starting salary between $115,000 and $135,000. An applicant's placement within this range is based on their individual qualifications and professional experience. In addition to base salary, AEGIS employees are eligible to participate in the Company's annual incentive program, with competitive awards based on corporate and individual performance.
