Registered Nurse - Surgery

It‘s more than a career, it‘s a calling MO-SSM Health St. Mary‘s Hospital - Jefferson City Job Summary Deliver professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. Responsibilities Perform scrub functions including selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure. Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure. Directly assist operating physician with surgical tasks including hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning. Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use. Apply the existing body of evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge in health care to nursing practice, ensuring that nursing care is delivered based on patient’s age‑specific and clinical needs. Demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model and use the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide care. Work in a constant state of alertness and safety. Perform other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or an education equivalency for licensing. No experience required. Physical Requirements Constant use of speech for oral communication. Constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs. Frequent sitting, reaching, keyboard use, and data entry. Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more), and to identify and distinguish colors. Frequent use of smell to detect odors and of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms or machinery. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs. Occasional lifting or moving of patients. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional driving. Rare crawling and running. Licensure & Certification Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA). Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or issued by the Compact State. Registered Nurse (RN) – Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) or issued by the Compact State. Registered Nurse (RN) – Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services or issued by the Compact State.
