Dental Front Office Assistant

Honey Bee Pediatric Dental Co. is a growing pediatric dental group with three offices across northeast Kansas and the Kansas City metro. We are hiring our first Marketing Referral Liaison the person who builds and protects our relationships with the dentists, pediatricians, and community health centers who send us their most complex cases. This is a brand-new role. Nobody has done it here before, which means you will shape it. It is also a field role: you will spend most days in your car and in other people's offices, not at a desk.
Why this job matters: When a general dentist has a frightened four-year-old with extensive decay, or a pediatrician sees a child who needs treatment under sedation, they need somewhere to send that family and hospital operating room waitlists in our area run months. We can usually see that child in weeks. The problem is that a lot of offices don't know that. Your job is to make sure they do, and to make referring to us so easy and so reliable that we become the first call. Nearly half our practice comes from these relationships, and right now nobody owns them.
What you'll actually do: Visit six to ten dental and medical offices a day on a regular route the Kansas City metro, Johnson County, Lawrence, Topeka, Jackson County, and surrounding communities. Build real relationships with doctors, office managers, and schedulers. Learn their names, their systems, and what makes their week harder. Reconnect with offices that sent us one patient and then stopped, and find out honestly why. Notice when a relationship cools before it goes quiet, and get in front of it. Organize continuing education evenings for referring dentists and community screening events at schools, Head Start programs, and daycares. Track your work and report what you're learning to the owner doctors monthly including the parts we won't enjoy hearing.
What we're looking for: Required: Two or more years in a role where you owned relationships in the field dental or medical sales, pharmaceutical or device, practice management, healthcare outreach, or community relations. Genuine warmth. This job is built on repeat visits over years, not on closing. Comfort with numbers. You'll get a monthly report and be expected to notice what changed and ask why. Self-direction. Nobody will be watching your calendar, and the results are visible either way. A reliable vehicle, valid license, and clean driving record.
Helpful, not required: Dental or pediatric healthcare background. Spanish. An existing professional network in Kansas City or northeast Kansas. Experience working with Medicaid, KanCare, or community health organizations.
Who tends to do well here: The people who are best at this are curious rather than persuasive. They want to know why an office isn't referring, and they're comfortable hearing that the reason is us. They remember that a scheduler's name is Marisol and that her daughter plays soccer. They'd rather build something that's still working in year five than hit a number this quarter.
Compensation and benefits: Competitive base salary plus a performance component. Mileage and expenses reimbursed; budget for meals and referring-office events. Health insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and dental care for you and your family. Full-time preferred. We're open to a part-time start for the right person.
About us: We're a pediatric dental group that treats every child the same way regardless of what insurance they carry and we mean that literally. You should not be able to tell from our waiting room which families are on Medicaid and which are paying cash. We take hard cases: children with autism, sensory needs, medical complexity, and severe dental anxiety, including kids other practices have turned away. Our brand is polished, and it's also fun and unpretentious. We think going to the dentist should not be the worst part of a kid's week.
