Payroll Manager

ProspectBlue is partnering with a growing organization to identify an experienced Payroll Manager to join their finance team in Richmond, VA!

This is a senior-level payroll role for someone who thrives on accuracy, compliance, and leading a team — not just processing payroll.

What You'll Be Doing

• Overseeing end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state or multi-entity workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
• Managing and mentoring a small payroll team
• Owning payroll-related journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close activities
• Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
• Partnering with HR on compensation, benefits administration, and workforce reporting
• Identifying and implementing process improvements across payroll operations
• Supporting audits and responding to regulatory inquiries as needed
• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity
• Strong working knowledge of payroll systems (ADP, Paylocity, Paycom, or similar)
• Solid understanding of payroll accounting and general ledger impact
• Multi-state payroll experience strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; CPP a plus
• Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment
