BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST

OBJECTIVE

The Behavior Specialist, in collaboration with other members of the Office of Specialized Instruction and School based teams, assists with consultation, development/design and implementation of behavioral/social/emotional interventions throughout the district.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with linkages and referrals for youth identified as in need of community-based services in supports.
• Assist in the development of targeted and intensive level interventions and strategies.
• Provide direct services to a referred group of targeted students.
• Develops methods of tracking effectiveness of behavior support plans
• Regularly reviews and analyzes data and make changes to plans as necessary.
• Prepare and provide CPI/PMT training to district staff on an "as needed" basis.
• Assist teachers in the development and implementation of social skills curricula appropriate to students' ages and abilities.
• Collaborate with school personnel in the development of behavior plans.
• Assist in the development and implementation of alternative interventions to suspension.
• Provide on-going staff observation and feedback related to behavioral treatment integrity.
• Participates in meetings and professional development as required or appropriate.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student, staff, and/or parent information.
• Models good attendance and punctuality.
• Additional duties may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services and Operations and the Director of Specialized Instruction.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Five or more years of successful school-based experience in a special education environment preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of psychology/behavior modification techniques.
• Ability to implement/interpret behavior intervention plans, classroom systems, IEP's and reinforcement systems.
• Current CPI or PMT trainer certification.
• Collaborating with school personnel about behavioral/social/emotional health.
• Evidence of diplomacy, flexibility, creativity and perseverance.
• Effective facilitation, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
