Assistant Editor, Art & Entertainment

Chronicle Books is looking for a creative and savvy Assistant Editor to join the Art & Entertainment publishing group. From Grumpy Cat to Dolly Parton, the team acquires and publishes pop culture books, formats, and calendars across a wide range of non‑fiction categories. The Assistant Editor will work under the Publishing Director, providing editorial and project management support on commercial titles, especially within key licensing relationships. Key Responsibilities Evaluate, track and input corrections to manuscripts. Maintain title schedules and generate title memo copy for tipsheets. Communicate with authors, artists, packagers, licensors, and literary agents. Research, evaluate, and respond to proposals while tracking licensor approvals. Present proposals to the publishing group meeting, generate P&Ls and deal sheets. Lead creative meetings, make offers, and monitor marketplace trends. Work collaboratively with department group members and cultivate industry relationships to support authors and other creators. Qualifications Minimum three years of publishing experience with proven project management skills. Interest in licensing and a demonstrated skill in copywriting and written communications. Ability to represent the publishing director and executive editor in meetings. Strong attention to detail, self‑motivation, and capacity to manage multiple tasks independently and collaboratively. Salary & Benefits Hiring Salary Range: $27.41 – $31.50/hr. This range reflects the anticipated low and high end of the expected salary and will be determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, and internal equity.
