By providing patients and internal and external stakeholders with a consistent, efficient, and easy experience, you’ll help ensure that patients at The Oregon Clinic Portland Dermatology Clinic receive the highest value care tailored to their needs. Using excellent customer service and communications skills, your primary duties in this role include: Responsible for all phases of preparation of pathology specimens, including accessioning, grossing, processing, embedding, and slide preparation. Quality control, quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and technical problem resolution. Providing optimal specimen processing with positive outcomes while observing cost containment, privacy, and safety issues. Service‑oriented, capable of exercising good judgment and problem resolution with systems, instruments, and procedures Troubleshoots procedures and instrumentation, performs preventative maintenance on equipment, and manages laboratory equipment and supplies cost‑effectively. Maintains accurate and complete logs, testing records, and resolves discrepancies with relevant staff, prioritizing workflow to maximize productivity goals. Prepares and hosts inspections and coordinates with the business office or other staff to ensure proper pathology billing. Other duties as assigned. Hiring range, based on experience and credentials: Level: $33.76-$45.68 per hour. Level II: $38.13-$57.20 per hour. Workdays: This role is based at the Machine Works Building. Free employee parking is available! Typical hours are Monday to Friday (7:30 am -4:00 pm). Qualifications that support success in this role are based on education, experience and values including: Completion of an associate or bachelor's degree in a biological or laboratory science Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a histology laboratory is strongly preferred. Experience with Mohs histology and/or grossing dermatology specimens (such as shaves, punches, and excisions) is a plus! Experience embedding, microtomy, H&E staining is required American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification, or equivalency, as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) is required. Must have documented training consistent with CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. This is to be reflective of the scope of practice and standards of practice in regular scheduled responsibilities and pay grade meeting all the HCFA-CLIA 88 requirements. Knowledge of Chemical Hygiene Plan, specimen requirements for procedures performed, test procedures, their principles, and medical implications. Knowledge of proper grossing techniques, specimen processing, embedding orientation, microtomy, staining and shipping. Demonstrated ability to initiate, work independently, and effectively multitask. Excellent attendance and work ethic. Positive attitude and desire to be a team player. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with patients, physicians and other team members.
