Substitute Teacher

Substitute Teacher Location: San Diego County, California. Role: hourly part‑time substitute teacher for High Tech High (HTH) – a K‑12 charter school network guided by principles of equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design. Job Summary Under the general supervision and guidance of the School Director, the teacher is responsible for preparing lesson plans, delivering instruction, grading, and documenting progress. They must command their classroom and use project‑based curriculum to engage students. The teacher creates and maintains a learning environment that promotes student academic potential and achieves the school's learning goals. Duties Embed High Tech High’s design principles of equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design in all work activities and actions. Create daily lesson plans with project‑based assignments that are engaging, educational and exciting for the kids. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences. Incorporate goals, competencies and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to students’ lives. Achieve school and course‑wide performance goals for every student in class. Grade assignments and homework regularly to keep students updated on their progress. Identify students who are struggling with learning, emotional problems, or situations at home, and find them the resources they need. Show exceptional administrative and organization skills. Have proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods. Education and/or Experience Bachelor's Degree. Valid California K-12 teaching credential, including a 30‑day Substitute Permit or a Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave (TPSL). Salary & Benefits Hourly position. Salary is $23.46/hour. This role does not include benefits. Contractors may be considered depending on the length of assignment.
