Job Summary The Therapies Supervisor for the Troy Center for Specialty Care reports directly to the Administrative Director of the Troy Campus and maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to Ambulatory Rehabilitation Therapies leadership. This role partners closely with Troy Campus Medical Directors, Administrative Managers, Nurse Supervisors, and other operational leaders to support the performance, quality, growth, and daily management of rehabilitation therapy services. This position includes both administrative/supervisory responsibilities and direct patient care within the incumbent's licensed rehabilitation discipline. Clinical effort may vary based on operational needs. The Therapies Supervisor provides direct supervision to assigned rehabilitation therapy staff and may provide functional oversight of support staff involved in therapy operations, scheduling, referral management, and clinic flow. The role is responsible for supporting high-quality, patient- and family-centered care; optimizing access and clinic operations; monitoring productivity and performance metrics; promoting staff engagement and development; ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards; and advancing service-line and campus strategic initiatives. Departmental oversight and cross-coverage responsibilities may change based on Troy Campus operational needs. Site Information The Troy Medical Campus will be University of Michigan Health?s first clinical presence in the Oakland County market. The campus will feature two outpatient facilities with over a dozen specialty programs including Cancer services, Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine as well as a surgery/procedure center, comprehensive imaging services, laboratory, pharmacy and therapy services. The campus is conveniently located near I-75, is surrounded by popular shopping and dining and features free parking, on-site cafe, with facilities committed to sustainable, environmentally responsible practices. Responsibilities* Essential Functions: Clinical Operations and Care Delivery Oversee daily clinical operations for assigned rehabilitation therapy services at the Troy Center for Specialty Care. Provide direct patient care within the incumbent's licensed rehabilitation discipline and scope of practice, as operational needs require. Support consistent delivery of safe, effective, high-quality, patient- and family-centered care. Implement clinical care models, guidelines, standards of care, and service line initiatives in partnership with ambulatory therapy leadership and campus leadership. Support use of standardized outcome measures, evidence-based care pathways, and clinical best practices across assigned therapy services. Identify clinical variation and partner with ambulatory therapy leadership to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency of care. Coordinate clinician deployment and staffing plans to support access, volume, productivity, and patient care needs. Monitor visit volume, productivity, referral patterns, scheduling activity, and other operational data to identify opportunities for improvement. Assist with triage of therapy referrals and patient orders to improve scheduling accuracy, timeliness, and appropriateness of care. Facilitate timely access, appropriate transfers, and seamless transitions of care when applicable. Staff Supervision, Development, and Engagement Provide direct supervision, coaching, feedback, and performance management for assigned clinical staff. Participate in recruitment, interviewing, hiring recommendations, onboarding, orientation, training, and retention of staff. Support staff scheduling, timekeeping review, workload balancing, and coverage planning in accordance with institutional policies and applicable labor agreements. Evaluate staff performance, support professional development, and promote competency in clinical and operational workflows. Address performance concerns, conduct corrective action, and participate in discipline or termination processes in accordance with Michigan Medicine policies and applicable labor agreements. Partner with campus leadership to recognize staff excellence, promote engagement, and support a positive work environment. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, team-based culture that supports accountability, continuous learning, and professional respect. Quality, Safety, Compliance, and Patient Experience Ensure compliance with applicable institutional policies, professional standards, documentation requirements, billing standards, privacy requirements, and regulatory/accreditation standards. Monitor documentation quality and participate in chart audits to support clinical, regulatory, and billing compliance. Collaborate with campus leadership to review safety events, incident reports, patient complaints, and service concerns. Monitor and support improvement in patient experience scores, access metrics, outcome measures, safety trends, and documentation compliance. Promote a culture of safety by encouraging event reporting, timely follow-up, and transparent communication. Develop, implement, and evaluate action plans related to patient safety, patient experience, quality outcomes, and operational performance. Analyze patient and family feedback and partner with staff and leadership to implement process improvements. Support emergency readiness, safe clinic operations, infection prevention practices, and appropriate staff preparedness. Identify, track, and resolve clinical and operational issues that affect care delivery or patient experience. Department Operations and Workflow Management Oversee routine department operations, including scheduling, referral management, patient flow, charge capture support, documentation workflows, and coordination with administrative support teams. Analyze and optimize workflows related to referral intake, scheduling, check-in, rooming or patient preparation, provider/staff interface, check-out, and follow-up activity. Partner with campus and service-line leaders to identify opportunities for program growth, referral development, and expanded patient access. Analyze referral sources, patient demand, schedule utilization, and regional market trends to inform growth planning. Support development of new rehabilitation therapy programs, specialty clinics, or care pathways aligned with Troy Campus growth strategies. Partner with Administrative Managers, Nurse Supervisors, and centralized support teams to ensure efficient clinic operations. Maintain, update, and implement department policies, procedures, guidelines, and therapeutic strategies in collaboration with Ambulatory Rehabilitation Therapies leadership. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead initiatives to improve access, efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction. Support cross-coverage of additional Troy Campus departments or services as assigned. Operational, Financial, and Strategic Performance Monitor and communicate operational and financial performance metrics to leadership, providers, and staff. Participate in development of department-level budget plans and annual financial planning in collaboration with the Administrative Director and other leaders. Monitor billing, charge capture, collections-related workflows, productivity, staffing utilization, and other fiscal indicators. Recommend corrective actions to address operational or financial performance concerns. Support strategic growth, access expansion, value-based care initiatives, and innovative care delivery models. Prepare data, reports, presentations, and action plans for leadership meetings, project teams, and performance reviews. Collaboration and Communication Partner with Medical Directors, Administrative Managers, Nurse Supervisors, Ambulatory Rehabilitation Therapies leadership, and centralized support services to achieve service line and campus goals. Serve as a communication link between frontline staff, campus leadership, and Ambulatory Rehabilitation Therapies leadership to ensure timely sharing of priorities, concerns, updates, and improvement opportunities. Collaborate with IT, facilities, finance, scheduling, billing, human resources, and other support services to resolve operational issues and advance department priorities. Build and maintain effective relationships with referring providers, faculty, staff, patients, families, and community stakeholders. Represent the department and campus on committees, workgroups, meetings, conferences, and community events as assigned. Communicate relevant Michigan Medicine, UMMG, ACS, campus, and department policies to staff and stakeholders as appropriate. Current State of Michigan professional license in applicable therapy discipline. Minimum of two years of clinical experience. Prior leadership experience, such as direct supervision, charge/lead therapist duties, project leadership, program development, staff training, or operational management. Demonstrated knowledge of ambulatory rehabilitation operations. Experience with quality improvement, patient experience, productivity metrics, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Demonstrated ability to use operational data, including productivity, access, quality, or patient experience metrics, to support decision-making. Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex ambulatory care environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Desired Qualifications* Experience in an academic medical center or large health system. Supervisory experience in an ambulatory health care setting. Experience with MiChart/Epic, financial reporting, ambulatory dashboards, or comparable analytics tools. Experience leading change management, process improvement, or program development. Certification or advanced training in relevant specialty area. Knowledge of the University of Michigan policies and procedures. Experience with team building and incorporating Lean principles into daily work. Strong understanding of the local Troy community and regional healthcare landscape, including patient populations, referral patterns, community organizations, and factors influencing access to care.
