Russell Tobin's client, an American manufacturing company, is hiring a Packaging Specialist in Leavenworth, KS. Employment Type: Contract/Onsite. Location: Leavenworth, KS 66048. Duration: 1+ months with possible extension or conversion. Pay range: $16/hr - $16.69/hr W2. Schedule: Mon – Fri 7:30 am – 4 pm (40hrs/week).
Position Summary:
The Packaging Specialist position reports through the Production Center and may be assigned to multiple departments based on business needs. Individuals in these departments perform a variety of hands-on duties related to production, packaging, labeling, quality, and material handling. The Packaging Specialist performs a variety of hands-on duties that may include unloading products (gift wrap, tissue, gift bags, etc.) from a conveyor, table, or other equipment and placing them on a skid, in stock boxes, on fixtures, or in cartons. The position may feed batch heads or operate manual equipment. The Packaging Specialist may assist in the production of products by tending the press, feeding and boxing completed products, and setting up and operating label machines to provide a variety of printed labels. Responsibilities also include assisting with make-ready activities, checking production quality, performing preventive maintenance, and completing required paperwork. The Packaging Specialist is responsible for reporting production-related information and cleaning equipment and work areas. The position may also assemble and pack various display units, read and follow store floor plans and merchandising instructions, and actively participate in performance dialogues and team problem-solving activities to support department goals. Flexibility is key, as the Packaging Specialist will be expected to learn and perform multiple assignments within this job classification and may be assigned to multiple departments.
In this position you will:
- Assist with all aspects of different assignments, with a focus on cross-training between departments. Assist with make-readies and inspect cards.
- Assist the operator with maintaining specified production levels, including throughput and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), by placing products onto flat skids or into carton boxes, or packing wholesale units into cartons. Feed and pack products into cartons, stack cartons on pallets, and maintain specified production.
- Execute the Quality System, including preflight activities, checking products for accuracy, following the sampling plan, and removing salvage/spoilage by using a guide, shop sample, or other approved methods.
- Utilize good safety practices.
Basic Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age.
- Able to read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to constantly stand, walk, twist, bend, and reach above shoulder level.
- Ability to constantly use repetitive hand/wrist motions and perform fine motor skills.
- Ability to grasp, pull, lift, and carry products up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma, General Educational Development (GED), or equivalent.
- Previous warehouse, production, packer, or packaging experience.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
