Under general supervision, the Admissions Advisor acts as a guide and brand ambassador, recruiting qualified students to the institution and supporting them through the entire enrollment funnel. They serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students and their families, typically in a designated geographical or functional area, providing detailed information about academic programs, financial aid, and campus life. In addition, they will be expected to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Admissions Office including, but not limited to, interviewing, group presentations, application reviews, and follow-up.
Essential duties:
- Arrange an appropriate, timely, and cost-effective travel schedule to satisfy recruitment objectives and expectations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with guidance offices for designated high schools.
- Represent the university at off-campus functions, such as college information programs, high school presentations, and community college visits to recruit prospective students.
- Coordinate on- and off-campus events for prospective families and high school counselors.
- Interview prospective students to understand their educational goals and determine if they are a good fit for the university and academic program.
- Meet with prospective students and parents to explain the specific advantages of a Catholic, Vincentian education at Niagara University.
- Simplify complex processes for families by clarifying application requirements, deadlines, and tuition costs.
- Provide preliminary counseling regarding financial aid options and scholarship eligibility.
- Execute strategies to convert inquiries into applicants, and applicants into enrolled students, to meet enrollment targets.
- Analyze data to track progress toward personal and team enrollment goals, addressing any deficiencies with proposed actions.
- Assist in day-to-day office operations, including application reviews, data entry, and follow-up contacts.
- Maintain thorough familiarity with all university degrees, certificates, departments, and admissions and financial aid processes.
- Assist with report writing and interpreting data specific to the position.
- Work evenings, weekends, and different shifts as required, including overnight travel.
- Drive a personal or university vehicle for business, maintaining the ability to operate a vehicle in Canada.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student grades, employee personal information, and other sensitive material.
- Supervise student employees as needed.
- Demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills while presenting a positive image of the university.
General description:
80% Recruitment travel, interviews, follow-up contacts, attend college information programs, high school and community college visits (occasional), competitor analysis, oversight of web content, conduct Saturday appointments, and participate in on- and off-campus events.
20% Data entry, computer assistance, report writing, interpreting data, work in evaluating data specific to position.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively and constructively with parents, students, and university personnel.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
- Strong information technology aptitude, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and admissions-related software.
- Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid processes.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret various forms, files, and government regulations.
- Strong work ethic and unquestioned personal integrity.
- Commitment to Niagara University's mission and programs.
- Aptitude to work effectively with feedback while ensuring accountability for established objectives.
Ergonomics requirements:
The functions of the position usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movements. This position also requires the ability to travel whenever necessary. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.
Qualification standards:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution or related experience.
- 1-3 years admissions and/or higher education experience.
- A valid New York State driver's license is required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor vehicle. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle in Canada.
