Our Approach to Teaching in the Autism Center
At Rocky Mountain Prep, we believe that every child deserves a joyful, rigorous, and inclusive education. Our Autism Center supports scholars with autism and related needs through individualized instruction in calm, structured environments, while actively promoting access to inclusive learning experiences across the broader school community. Each classroom typically includes 9 to 11 scholars, a lead teacher, and three adult supports, with additional support considered beyond that size. Our model provides teachers with access to robust instructional resources and tools to support both academic learning and functional life skills. Instruction is highly individualized, aligned to each student’s IEP, and grounded in data-driven decisions, collaboration with service providers, and partnership with families. We use visual supports, sensory strategies, and proactive behavior systems to build independence, confidence, and academic growth. Teachers are supported with clear routines, coaching, and professional development, and are empowered to create learning spaces where all scholars are safe, known, and celebrated.
Autism Center Teachers at Rocky Mountain Prep will…
- Teach a class of 9 to 11 scholars, providing individualized instruction and actively facilitating inclusion in general education settings.
- Use a suite of instructional resources and tools to deliver individualized, standards-aligned, and IEP-driven lessons that promote academic, behavioral, and functional growth.

- Develop and maintain high-quality IEPs, FBAs, and BIPs that meet compliance standards and reflect collaboration with families and service providers.
- Partner with families through regular communication and facilitation of IEP meetings that are strengths-based and accessible.
- Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and general education staff to ensure aligned support and inclusion opportunities when appropriate.
- Coach and supervise paraprofessionals to provide consistent academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support.
- Embody and model RMP’s PEAK values: Perseverance, Excellence, Adventure, and Kindness in all instructional and relational practices.

Take ownership of student outcomes by setting high expectations, using data to guide instruction, and ensuring all scholars grow through strong planning, rigorous teaching, and timely re-teaching.
