Schedule: Monday through Friday, with a standard shift from 9 am to 5 pm Positions closes: Thursday, August 20th at 5 pm Job Summary This position reports directly to their assigned Manager and is responsible for supervising the daily work activities in the field to ensure that District mandates and customer’s needs are met while working towards a high level of employee job satisfaction. Provides effective leadership and ensures that services are delivered in professional, courteous, safe, and efficient ways. This position serves as a District customer service representative responsible for successfully interacting with the public to resolve concerns, provide conflict resolution when needed and improve services. Responsible for supervising lead equipment operators and their teams and the container specialists and serves as the link between program managers and the frontline staff. Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of experience in a field closely related to these duties, one (1) year of which must have been in a leadership or supervisory role; OR Four (4) years of equivalent combination of related experience and education, one (1) year of which must have been in a leadership or supervisory role. Preference may be given for two (2) or more years of leadership or supervisory experience. Must possess a valid Utah Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)and valid DOT Medical Card at the time of employment. General proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel is required. Essential Functions Supervises and provides support for work groups and lead equipment operators across all services, manages daily work orders for container specialists, inspects routes, reviews work in progress, allocates personnel and equipment to meet demand, ensures effective communication between programs, and monitors the daily performance of assigned personnel and the team to ensure daily collections, or deliveries and repairs, are completed to standard and on time. May fill in for work team members as needed. Supervises and provides necessary training and retraining for all District employees. To include but not limited to new hire training, New Hire Mentor Training, Post-accident re-training etc. This position is dedicated to the success of all Operators through any training needs. Creates classroom trainings for pre-post trips, operator manual training and safety of equipment training and hosts the in person classroom trainings with new drivers and driver mentors. Responds and resolves customer concerns and educates customers about waste and recycling collection services. Keeps Managers apprised of customer issues. Sets up routes and handles conflicts in the field that interfere with daily collections or deliveries and sees them through to completion. Inspects private lanes if requested. Assists Managers to implement and conduct operator or container specialist training and safety In cooperation with respective manager, conducts annual performance evaluations, and coordinates with managers when performance improvements are needed. Evaluates and improves workforce efficiency. Provides effective leadership, evaluates and corrects driver performance, coaches lead operators, and assists the team to achieve the mission, vision and values that are Fills in for Managers as needed. Responds to incidents and accidents and ensures all District policies and procedures for accident reporting are followed. Serves as a contact for law enforcement officers and other agencies that interact with the Compiles any accident or incident reports for the day and inputs them into the H: drive as well as ensures hard copies are filed properly. Ensures all supplies are available for employees in the respective storage areas. Leads team meetings, conducts lead operator meetings, participates in operations meetings, and serves on committees and task forces as needed. Acts as a team member with all appropriate teams, attends safety, recognition and other pertinent meetings while performing other duties as assigned. If afternoon schedule, flex work time as appropriate to stay within approved weekly work hours. Tracks cart inventory and repairs, recognize and chart trends, monitor RFID/”telematics systems” and assist customer support staff with concerns and complaints. Prepares cart warranties and assists management with ordering the proper equipment. Clears CNG island of snow and debris as needed. Supervises Special Services Program. Handles delivering services for special events, scheduling missed or needed additional collections for Special Services customers. Day sheet creation and publishing - Makes sure routes and route lists are current, and drivers’ routes are balanced with Special Services stops included. Ensures proper adjustments are made when needed. Cover Special Services routes in time of need when unforeseen circumstances arise. Dispatch missed collections from previous day to applicable driver(s) and complete service orders in Caselle. Sets up and handles any curbside assist requests or changes needed. Ensures daily inspection tags are hung each evening and turned in the following day from the placement on equipment and reported to Fleet Coordinator. If placed inspection tags are not turned in each day as required, coaching with the appropriate equipment operator is to happen, with documentation provided to appropriate manager for tracking. Ensures all operators and equipment are in the yard at the end of the day. Ensures routes and groups are complete and released for the day. Ensures that any scheduled go-back homes and roads are fully completed by end of day, which includes the proper completion of service orders in Caselle. Daily assignment of Trailer program. Supervise daily scheduling and workload to ensure completion. Trains all Trailer employees to operate equipment safely and effectively. Communicates with other Supervisors daily if there are needed changes to cover the program with unforeseen issues. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Knowledge of: Principles, methods, and techniques of effective supervision and leadership Follow written and verbal instructions and interpret and apply policies Operation and maintenance of heavy-duty collection and compaction equipment Preventive maintenance for equipment and trucks Microsoft programs, Excel, Word, Outlook, (general proficiency required) The hazards and safety precautions inherent to waste collection operations Effective methods of communication General knowledge of Salt Lake County geography General knowledge of Caselle for: Data input Service order process Monitoring and assigning daily workload Skills and Abilities: Computer skills related to creating and preparing documents, data tracking and evaluation, and Ability to perform math calculations using Excel to calculate tonnage, mileage, inventory, and time and leave usage Edit or print GIS maps Exhibit professional work behaviors and work well within the District teams Meet deadlines in stressful situations Manage multiple priorities Public relations Working Conditions and Physical Requirements This position requires a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet. Must be able to push, pull, or lift up to 100 pounds as necessary to ensure route is complete and free of debris. Must exhibit manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Must drive and sit for extended periods while exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and potentially unsanitary conditions; the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. Must climb into and out of equipment on a regular basis. Based on assignment will be required to get and maintain forklift certification. Important Information Regarding this Position Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, MVR, FMSCA Clearinghouse, and possible background check. Must maintain a current Class A or Class B CDL and DOT Medical Certificate. Position requires a flexible work schedule to include weekends and holidays depending on the season.
