TPWD - Staff Services Officer I (Wildlife Staff Services Officer) Location Roger R. Fawcett WMA, 4730 FM 2692, Gordon, Texas 76453 Mission To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. Responsibilities Human Resource, Training and Payroll Duties (15%) Prepare, edit, track, and distribute correspondence, reports, forms, and projects. Coordinate and schedule training for agency employees. Assist with developing job postings and screening applicants; interpret policy and procedure questions on promotions, merit increases, transfers, and separations. Process employee payroll changes, handle leave requests, and serve as leave coordinator. Assist with maintenance of human resource activities and personnel files. Process accident reports and other needed actions. Handle meeting logistics and mailing lists. Prepare and receive correspondence to/from local governments, state and federal agencies, consulting firms, and private citizens. Facilitate routing of response letters and red/blue dot letters for the Executive Office. Purchasing, Accounting and Budgeting Duties (50%) Order merchandise, supplies, and equipment in accordance with state and agency requirements. Prepare and track procurement requests, purchase orders, and monitor expenditures. Maintain inventory and assist with budget development. Maintain accurate records and logs for purchases to comply with purchasing and auditor requirements. Advise staff on procurement policies and use of procurement and fuel cards. Maintain assigned budget, expenditures, and track budget in the accounting system. Research complex procurement problems and ensure timely corrections. Assist other administrative staff in related duties. Travel, Records and Property Management Duties (20%) Coordinate and schedule travel; serve as travel coordinator. Perform record retention work and coordinate disposal of records per agency schedule. Assist in recommending and implementing procedural or policy changes. Maintain equipment, materials, and supplies; assist with travel expense vouchers. Enter data into tracking databases for reports, schedules, and project information. Maintain hard‑copy and electronic filing systems. Review employee vehicle reports. Other Division Specific Duties (10%) Assist with the implementation and record‑keeping of the region's safety program. Answer multi‑line phone system and take messages. Prepare and disseminate information concerning the Wildlife Division program and procedures. Assist with answering public hunt questions and help organize public hunts. Marginal Duties (5%) Perform additional duties as assigned. Comply with agency, division, and department rules, regulations, and procedures. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Three years of experience performing administrative support duties. Experience in staff services functions such as administrative support, business administration, human resource administration, purchasing, or budget preparation. Experience providing assistance to directors, supervisors/managers, and other staff. Experience preparing, editing, and distributing correspondence, reports, forms, or documents. Valid state driver’s license within 30 days of employment. Complete Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Basic Texas Purchaser Course within six months if required. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a closely related field. Experience in basic accounting and purchasing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of fiscal control, budgeting techniques, and administrative support work. Knowledge of human resource administration and purchasing methods. Knowledge of business English, proofreading, grammatical rules, and document formatting/editing. Coordination, critical thinking, and customer service skills. Proficiency with computer applications, Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting platforms, and Adobe products. Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain flexibility, and meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpretation of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Efficient, organized, and productive with minimal supervision. Working Conditions Required to work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. May be required to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and other hours with supervisor approval. May be required to operate a state vehicle. Required to travel 5% of the time, with possible overnight stays.
