[EOI][SPRING 2026] Polymathic AI Postdoctoral Researcher

Overview The Center for Data Science at New York University (NYU) invites applications for postdoctoral scholars as part of the Polymathic AI initiative. Polymathic AI focuses on building and understanding foundation models for science, including astronomy, biology, fluid dynamics, and solar physics. Responsibilities The candidate will contribute to research on interpretability, generalization, and understanding of foundation models, and create open‑access tools to accelerate scientific discovery. Key activities include: Combining machine learning core principles with deep learning tools to develop practical AI solutions for complex scientific challenges. Collaborating with the Adaptive Bayesian Intelligence group at RIKEN‑AIP (Tokyo) and TU Darmstadt (Germany) to apply adaptive‑learning methods. Conducting theoretical and applied research, publishing findings, and presenting at conferences. Traveling to Japan and Germany as required for collaborations. Qualifications Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, computational science, or a related field. Strong research background in machine learning, foundation models, and computational sciences. Experience with programming, project management, and large‑scale model training. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Compensation Annual base salary range: $80,000 – $110,000. Positions will be filled on a senior postdoctoral scholar level. Hiring Details Several positions are available.
