Pharmacy Care Advocate, UofL Hospital, Specialty Pharmacy, 7:30a-6p

Overview UofL Health is a fully integrated regional academic health system that serves more than 200 physician practice locations, nine hospitals, four medical centers, and numerous specialty centers. This position—Physical Care Assistant (PCA) working remotely from KY—requires the individual to act as a liaison between patients, caregivers, physicians, pharmacists, and insurance providers to manage medication access and financing programs for underinsured patients. Responsibilities Facilitate optimal drug therapy by serving as a patient advocate and liaison between patients, pharmaceutical companies, insurance providers, physicians, pharmacists, clinic staff, and care coordination staff. Assist in delivering high quality health care services in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner while respecting the dignity and individuality of each person. Accurately obtain patient history information upon receipt of prescription, including address, date of birth, phone number, drug allergies, disease states, and third‑party information. Work cooperatively with others and organize daily workflow to optimize output. Document findings thoroughly and accurately. Meet or exceed productivity standards in the completion of daily assignments and accurate production. Answer and respond to external and internal phone calls and emails in a timely manner. Complete all requested documentation, workload reports, and trending activity reports. Interview patients and/or caregivers to obtain confidential qualifying information (demographics, financial, and insurance information) for drug replacement and/or co‑pay assistance programs. Oversee inventory management functionality of program drugs in accordance with pharmaceutical manufacturer regulations and certify patients in a timely manner to maintain uninterrupted benefits. Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date documentation of drug deliveries, area serviced, volumes, and trends. Independently resolve majority of provider and customer concerns, seeking assistance from a pharmacist or coordination manager as needed. Contact patients or caregivers by phone to determine medication/supply needs. Work with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and care coordinators to better utilize formulary and drug benefit programs to maximize benefits for patients. Perform financial, billing, and clinical audits to ensure accurate information is processed and documented; communicate discrepancies in a timely manner. Seek and maintain updated knowledge about Patient Assistance Programs and contribute to the education of others. Manage all orders received by fax, physician EMR, or other sources. Identify and share information as appropriate to ensure patients obtain insurance coverage for the future. Assist in obtaining drug replacement for the pharmacy department related to accidental wastage. Assist with prior authorization and scheduling: Complete prior authorizations and appeals accurately and promptly. Contact insurance plans/payors to determine eligibility and obtain coverage and benefit information. Assist in the coordination of patient appointments as necessary. Communicate in a timely manner with patients, providers, infusion/pharmacy staff, and medical office staff to ensure patient readiness for treatment. Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date documentation of area serviced, volumes, and trends. Participate in a team approach to quality improvement to support the Pharmacy Department’s commitment to quality patient care. Attend and participate in department and hospital meetings, in‑services, and quality improvement teams. Contribute to the accomplishment of department and hospital objectives. Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct. Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High School or GED/equivalent (required). Experience: Three (3) years as a pharmacy technician (preferred). Experience: Three (3) years with patient access, insurance verification, prior authorizations, or medical billing (preferred). Licensure: Registered or eligible to register as a pharmacy technician with the State Board of Pharmacy Examiners (required). Certification: PTCB certification preferred if working in a retail pharmacy setting and handling medications. #J-18808-Ljbffr University Medical Center, Inc.
