Product Designer II

About the Role

SDS is seeking a Product Designer II to support a next-generation point-of-sale (POS) initiative focused on transforming the retail checkout experience across stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Retail Operations teams to design intuitive, scalable experiences for both customers and store associates. You’ll conduct onsite UX validation in a dedicated POS test lab and observe real-world retail interactions to ensure solutions are grounded in actual user behavior.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct user research with cashiers, shoppers, service desk representatives, and fuel center associates to uncover user needs and pain points
• Facilitate cross-functional workshops with Product, Engineering, Architecture, and Retail Operations teams to solve experience and workflow challenges
• Partner with development teams throughout the product lifecycle, providing design direction and participating in Agile ceremonies
• Collaborate with Quality Engineering to ensure delivered solutions align with the intended user experience
• Create and maintain UX artifacts, including personas, journey maps, workflows, and service blueprints
• Gather, synthesize, and apply qualitative and quantitative insights to support data-informed design decisions
• Explore and adopt emerging AI-enabled design tools and workflows

Required Qualifications

• Experience facilitating workshops and cross-functional collaboration
• Strong background in user research and UX design
• Proficiency with Figma
• Experience working within Agile product teams
• Ability to create personas, user journeys, and related UX documentation
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Interest in leveraging AI tools within modern design workflows

Preferred Qualifications

• Retail or point-of-sale experience
• Experience with service blueprint development
• Enterprise platform or large-scale application experience
• Experience conducting in-store research or observational studies
• Ability to work across both technical and business stakeholder groups
