Billing Specialist

Location: Portsmouth, VA

Pay Rate: $23.25 per hour

Assignment Length: 6 Months to 1 Year

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Billing Specialist for a temporary assignment in

Portsmouth, VA. The ideal candidate will have experience with medical billing,

insurance claims processing, coding, and Microsoft Office applications. This position

plays a key role in ensuring accurate billing, claim submission, payment

reconciliation, and follow-up with insurance carriers.

Responsibilities

• Process and review insurance billing edits and claim rejections.

• Submit electronic claims and rebills through the billing system.

• Verify insurance eligibility, authorizations, and claim acknowledgments.

• Bill secondary and tertiary insurance carriers as needed.

• Follow up on unpaid claims and payment discrepancies.

• Review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).

• Ensure insurance payments are accurate and comply with contractual

agreements.

• Maintain detailed billing records and documentation.

• Communicate professionally with insurance companies and internal

departments.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree preferred.

• Minimum of 2 to 3 years of medical billing, insurance claims, billing, and coding

experience.

• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing.

• Understanding of medical coding systems.

• Experience interpreting EOBs, co-pays, deductibles, and coinsurance.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Preferred Skills

• Medical billing and coding experience.

• Electronic claims processing experience.

• Strong Microsoft Office skills.

• Experience working with insurance carriers and reimbursement processes.
