Hiring Range: $49,776 - $62,220 ; dependent upon experience and qualifications

Position Summary

Under general supervision, Telecommunicators perform specialized emergency communications and police records management duties in the Town's Police Communications Center. This position serves as the primary point of contact for emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatches public safety personnel, maintains critical records, and provides communications support that keeps officers/firefighters and the community safe.

Essential Responsibilities

As a Telecommunicator, you will:

• Receive and process 911 emergency and non-emergency calls for service
• Dispatch public safety using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems
• Coordinate and monitor radio communications with officers/firefighters in the field
• Obtain and relay critical information during emergency situations
• Access state and national law enforcement databases, including DCI, NCIC, NLETS, and DMV systems
• Maintain accurate communications logs, incident records, and police reports
• Monitor security camera systems, including Milestone video management and license plate reader technology
• Perform routine wellness checks for senior citizens on designated call lists
• Provide assistance to walk-in visitors and answer Town telephone lines after hours
• Support departmental administrative functions and report preparation
• Assist with training new Telecommunicators and other assigned projects
• Help maintain dispatch equipment and communications workstations
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support Cornelius Police Department operations

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

• High school diploma or GED
• Customer service experience; experience in emergency communications, dispatching, or police records management is preferred
• Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Valid driver's license
• DCI Operator Certification (or ability to obtain if applicable to departmental requirements)

Equipment Used

Telecommunicators work with a variety of communications and technology systems, including:

• Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD)
• Police radio communications consoles
• DCI, NCIC, NLETS, and DMV computer systems
• Multi-monitor computer workstations
• Milestone camera systems and license plate readers
• Multi-line telephone systems and other communications equipment

Working Environment

This position is performed in a secure communications center. While the physical demands are not strenuous, the work is fast-paced, pressure-sensitive, and requires the ability to make accurate decisions while managing multiple priorities and emergency situations.
