Facilities & Test Equipment Project Engineer

Deliver full-spectrum infrastructure and engineering solutions that power high-consequence defense missions. In this multidisciplinary role, you will apply scientific, technical, and business expertise to program, construct, modernize, and maintain advanced facilities, utilities, and automated test equipment environments across the Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) Software Directorate.

What you will accompolish:

- Build the Future of Defense Tech: Engineer and modernize the physical laboratories, cleanrooms, and facilities where next-generation military software is designed and tested.

- End-to-End Project Authority: Own the full project lifecycle-from developing business cases and estimating costs to conducting on-site construction inspections and equipment installations.

- Advanced Equipment Integration: Specify, install, and sustain high-tech automated test systems, industrial utilities, and programmable depot equipment critical to warfighter readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

- Facility Construction & Modernization: Program and execute large-scale facility construction, repair, and infrastructure maintenance projects utilizing sound engineering and business principles.

- Advanced Test Equipment Integration: Specify, install, and maintain programmable depot and automatic test equipment, auxiliary utilities, and specialized ancillary systems.

- Business & Lifecycle Management: Develop rigorous business cases, generate accurate cost estimates, establish project management protocols, and deliver comprehensive technical training.

- On-Site Quality Assurance: Perform detailed construction inspections, enforce safety and compliance standards, and resolve complex engineering bottlenecks during installation phases.

If you are:

- A versatile engineer or project manager with proven experience in industrial facility construction, plant engineering, or technical infrastructure sustainment.

- A technical integrator skilled in specifying and installing automated test systems, heavy utilities, and specialized programmable equipment.

- A pragmatic problem solver experienced in cost estimation, business case analysis, contractor oversight, and lifecycle project execution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- U.S. Citizenship

- Work may occasionally require travel away from normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

- May require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.

- Obtain & maintain a Secret security clearance

- May act as project liaison with the Equipment Engineers or other design agencies as required

- The work may require intermittent lifting of up to 40lb.

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Extensive working knowledge and ability in communicating both verbally and in writing in technical terms with architects and mechanical, civil, structural, and electrical engineers.

2. Ability to translate and convert technical requirements into understandable written language from which managers and laymen can understand.

3. Ability to creatively modify existing and/or standard practices and to adapt techniques, procedures, and equipment to solve a variety of technical and management problems is required.

4. Comprehensive knowledge of Government and Air Force contractual and funding rules, statutory regulations, relationships and administrative procedures involved in developing and procuring construction, depot equipment, services, technical studies, and engineering support.

5. Project management knowledge and experience, from concept to completion, for a broad range of facility and industrial projects.

6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining material and personnel resources required to accomplish the mission.

7. Working knowledge in accessing and applying health, fire, safety, construction, engineering, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders.

8. Knowledge of analytical and evaluative methods and procedures and skill in evaluating site, facility systems, and industrial process to record and develop comprehensive plans, estimates, and options to ensure continued facility integrity.

9. Skill in developing construction and equipment cost estimates using published cast data resources.

10. Skill in reading and understanding engineering drawings, use of symbols, terminology, and accepted standards; and the equipment facilities, and systems of civil, mechanical, electrical, and architectural engineering disciplines using AutoCAD software.
