This position offers a meaningful combination of clinic autonomy, surgical involvement, and inpatient care, giving you the opportunity to support patients throughout their orthopedic journey. You will maintain an independent clinic schedule while working closely with the surgeon and broader care team to evaluate new and established patients, manage acute and chronic orthopedic concerns, provide pre- and postoperative care, and support continuity of care. You will also participate in hospital rounding and a shared inpatient and outpatient call rotation. Approximately 1.5 days each week are spent in the operating room, providing direct surgical support and first-assist coverage. For Nurse Practitioners, completion of an RN First Assist program meeting AORN Standards is required to perform first-assist responsibilities. Why This Role Stands Out Work directly alongside a fellowship-trained Total Joint and Adult Reconstruction Surgeon Maintain your own clinic schedule with meaningful autonomy in patient management Spend approximately 1.5 days per week in the OR with direct surgical involvement Manage patients across clinic, hospital, surgical, and postoperative settings Build specialized expertise in Total Joint and Adult Reconstruction Join a collaborative team within a comprehensive musculoskeletal care model What We re Looking For At least 1 year of surgical experience as an NP or PA Clinical confidence in a surgical and orthopedic care environment Ability to manage patients independently while collaborating closely with a surgeon Strong patient education, communication, and continuity-of-care skills Comfort moving between clinic, hospital, and operating room responsibilities A team-oriented, adaptable approach to patient care Job Duties & Responsibilities Evaluate patients through comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and assessment of health status and treatment progress Diagnose and manage acute and chronic orthopedic conditions within the APP scope of practice Order, review, and interpret appropriate diagnostic studies and develop treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising surgeon Maintain an independent outpatient clinic schedule and manage new, established, preoperative, and postoperative patients Administer injections and medications and perform appropriate office-based procedures, including wound care and suturing Assist the surgeon in the operating room, including first-assist responsibilities as appropriately credentialed Perform hospital rounds and coordinate inpatient and postoperative care Triage patient calls and address clinical concerns in person and by phone Participate in the shared inpatient and outpatient call rotation, including scheduled after-hours and weekend coverage Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedures, recovery, treatment plans, and ongoing care Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to promote coordinated patient care Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation and strict patient confidentiality Required Qualifications Minimum 1 year of surgical experience Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program PA: Current Arizona Physician Assistant license and NCCPA certification NP: Current Arizona RN license and Arizona Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license National NP certification as required by the Arizona APRN Board NP candidates must have completed an RN First Assist program meeting AORN Standards to perform required first-assist responsibilities Current CPR and ACLS certification Ability to participate in inpatient and outpatient call coverage Preferred Background Previous orthopedic or musculoskeletal experience Total Joint or Adult Reconstruction experience Experience managing preoperative and postoperative surgical patients Experience with hospital rounding and inpatient orthopedic care Master's degree for Physician Assistant candidates This Role Is Likely a Fit If You Enjoy a role that combines independent clinic responsibilities with hands-on surgical involvement Want to work closely with a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and develop deeper specialty expertise Are comfortable managing patients across outpatient, inpatient, and perioperative settings Thrive in a busy surgical environment where priorities can shift throughout the day Value autonomy while still being part of a collaborative clinical team Enjoy building continuity with patients from evaluation through surgery and recovery This Role May Not Be a Fit If You Have less than one year of surgical experience Prefer a clinic-only position without operating room responsibilities Are not comfortable participating in an inpatient and outpatient call rotation Prefer a role with little autonomy or independent patient management Are an NP without the required first-assist training and credentials Do not enjoy working across multiple care settings, including clinic, hospital, and OR environments Why Join Us This role offers the opportunity to become an integral part of a specialized orthopedic team while building expertise across the full continuum of Total Joint and Adult Reconstruction care.
