Client Office Phlebotomist-Full-time Days SD

Overview This is a full-time, 37 hours per week phlebotomy position located at a client site in the River North neighborhood in Chicago. Must be able to work Monday and Thursday 9:30am - 7pm; Wednesday and Friday 9am - 4pm; Saturday 9am - 2pm. Salary range: $19.81 - $25.75 per hour. Placement within the range is based on experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the collective bargaining agreement. Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy and other lab specimen collections per age-related standards and in accordance with department policies, protocols and procedures. Demonstrates AIDET model and optimizes patient safety to reduce the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Receives and reviews physician orders; enters accurate orders for lab tests in accordance with department policies, protocols and procedures. Performs post-phlebotomy patient communication and care as appropriate. Processes specimens in a timely manner to ensure stability and integrity of samples, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing and packaging for transport in line with established policies. Reviews refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA records; reports findings to supervisor or manager and documents corrective actions as needed. Operates and maintains equipment pertinent to the job; follows up on outstanding orders and communicates draw/charges/results as appropriate. Notifies Laboratory and/or Physician of problems with specimen procurement for optimal care. Maintains a safe work environment and adheres to biohazard waste procedures and proper storage and timely pickup of biohazardous waste. Performs lab-related clerical duties including order entry, verification of test result receipt, patient information retrieval, and use of email and medical record systems; maintains supply inventory and sanitizes equipment as necessary. Uses department resources efficiently and participates in cost-reduction and workflow-improvement efforts. Adheres to continuing education expectations and completes competency assessments. Demonstrates teamwork and professional conduct; applies critical thinking and judgment to resolve challenges. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: High School diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, or CMA certification, or one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting. Preferred: Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types. Experience processing lab specimens, transferring specimens, and handling a centrifuge. Familiar with medical EMR systems; knowledge of medical terminology.
