Respiratory Therapist, Certified
North Alabama Medical Center
North Alabama Medical Center in Florence, Alabama is seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across a variety of acute and critical care settings, supporting the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Working as a key member of an interdisciplinary care team, you will perform thorough respiratory assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
The Certified Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for administering and monitoring a full range of respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, aerosol and nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, and bronchial hygiene procedures. You will initiate, manage, and wean patients from mechanical ventilation and noninvasive ventilation such as BiPAP and CPAP, ensuring ventilator settings are appropriate and safe based on clinical status, arterial blood gas results, and established protocols. You will obtain and analyze arterial blood gases, interpret results, and communicate critical findings to the care team in a timely manner. Additional responsibilities include assisting with airway management, performing suctioning, supporting rapid response and code blue situations with effective ventilatory support and CPR, and ensuring that all respiratory care is delivered in accordance with evidence-based standards and regulatory requirements.
In this position, you will maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record, documenting assessments, interventions, patient responses, and any changes in status. You will help educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, therapies, equipment use, and strategies to optimize lung health, tailoring communication to meet individual needs and literacy levels. You will also play an active role in equipment management, including the set-up, calibration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance of ventilators, oxygen delivery devices, and other respiratory care equipment, reporting any malfunctions promptly and supporting a safe patient care environment through strict adherence to infection prevention and control procedures.
As part of North Alabama Medical Center, you will work on-site within a comprehensive healthcare facility that offers emergency care, surgical services, and specialized medical treatments. NAMC fosters a culture of compassion, inclusivity, and teamwork, where your skills and ideas are valued. You will work in a dynamic, patient-centered environment that encourages continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration. The organization provides access to state-of-the-art technology and a supportive interdisciplinary team, giving you the opportunity to expand your clinical expertise while contributing directly to the health and well-being of the community.
This role is well-suited for a Certified Respiratory Therapist who is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical setting with diverse patient populations, including medical-surgical, emergency, and critical care units. You should be able to prioritize effectively, respond calmly to emergent situations, and demonstrate strong critical thinking skills in making real-time clinical decisions. A commitment to compassionate patient care, clear communication, and professional integrity is essential. At North Alabama Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to grow professionally through ongoing education, mentorship, and exposure to a wide spectrum of respiratory care practices, while making a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their families.
