Immediate opening for a Senior Research Associate, Multiplex Bead Assay Development in San Diego, CA who possesses:

• Strong, demonstrated ELISA experience
• Bachelor's degree with 3+ years or Master's degree with 2+ years of related diagnostic development and R&D experience
• Hands-on assay development, optimization, troubleshooting, and data analysis experience
• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
• Lateral flow assay experience a plus
• Design of Experiment (DOE) and ISO 13485 experience preferred

FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a hands-on Senior Research Associate to support development and optimization of a multiplex bead assay panel covering multiple disease targets. This role will independently perform assay development experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot technical challenges, propose follow-up experiments, maintain accurate laboratory documentation, and contribute to technical discussions with the project team. The ideal candidate will have strong ELISA experience, diagnostic development or R&D experience, excellent scientific judgment, and the ability to work independently at the bench while remaining collaborative, coachable, and eager to grow.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

• Performing standard assay development experiments independently
• Developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting multiplex bead assays
• Progressing assay development from one disease target to the next
• Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data
• Drawing conclusions from assay results and proposing appropriate follow-up experiments
• Consulting with the project lead regarding major experimental deviations or technical challenges
• Initiating research through literature review and review of historical project data
• Contributing ideas and well-defined experiments to overcome technical challenges
• Maintaining accurate and timely laboratory notebook records
• Communicating assay development updates clearly to the project team
• Supporting technical discussions and project planning activities
• Assisting with external presentations and technical reports as needed
• Drafting and following manufacturing protocols to support diagnostic assay production
• Following applicable Quality Management System requirements
• Working safely with human blood products and common laboratory chemicals
• Supporting stocking and ordering of common laboratory reagents and supplies
• Training and onboarding new laboratory team members on SOPs, equipment, and inventory as appropriate
• Supporting continuous improvement of laboratory processes and assay development workflows
• Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

• Strong ELISA experience required
• Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of related experience or Master's degree with 2+ years of related experience preferred for Senior Research Associate level
• Candidates earlier in their careers with strong ELISA skills may also be considered at an appropriate Research Associate level
• Diagnostic development experience required
• Research and development experience required
• Hands-on assay development experience required
• Experience optimizing and troubleshooting laboratory assays preferred
• Experience analyzing experimental data and determining appropriate next steps required
• Experience working with one or more disease areas acceptable
• Lateral flow assay experience preferred
• Familiarity with Design of Experiment methodologies preferred
• Experience implementing or working within ISO 13485 requirements preferred
• Experience working within a Quality Management System preferred
• Strong scientific documentation skills required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Strong presentation skills preferred
• Strong attention to detail required
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills required
• Ability to work independently without continuous supervision required
• Ability to work effectively within a diverse, collaborative team required
• Strong initiative and willingness to take ownership of daily laboratory work

• Ability to work onsite full-time in San Diego, CA

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout laboratory and office environments as needed
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while performing laboratory experiments and reviewing data
• Ability to use hands and fingers for pipetting, sample preparation, reagent handling, equipment operation, documentation, and standard laboratory tasks
• Ability to perform detailed bench work requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
• Ability to work with human blood products, laboratory chemicals, reagents, samples, and related biological materials
• Ability to review experimental data, assay results, laboratory records, scientific literature, reports, and computer screens for extended periods
• Ability to safely operate standard laboratory equipment
• Ability to maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and electronic records
• Ability to wear required PPE and follow all applicable laboratory, biosafety, chemical handling, quality, and safety procedures
• Ability to maintain accuracy, focus, and attention to detail while performing repetitive and technically complex assay development activities

Salary Range: $73,000 to $90,000/year
