Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Job Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners. Responsibilities Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories. Perform physical examinations. Create treatment plans. Conduct diagnostics. Assist or perform dental services. Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures. Medical management of patients. Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Internship Details Most externship experiences at Park Hills Animal Hospital, A PetOne Veterinary Hospital, range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount is $500.
