Campus: Brookville (Post) Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:
The trainer / screener will be part of a team working on a county-wide program to promote screening and providing preventative intervention to middle school students at risk of opioid use disorder (OUD) and/or substance use disorder (SUD), particularly due to developmental disabilities such as mild cognitive impairment, ADHD, or autism spectrum disorder. Efforts will include the use of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) and motivational interviewing (MI). Training in these areas will be provided to candidates who are otherwise qualified, but lack a background in one or both of these areas. This effort is funded by the Nassau County Opioid Settlement fund. Please note that this is a PART-TIME role. General statement of duties
Key responsibilities:
• Collaborate on selecting screening protocols and preparing associated materials
• Provide instruction in the use of screening protocols to school social workers, including demonstrating the use of these materials via conducting screenings with middle school-aged students
• Observe social workers' use of the screenings and providing feedback and guidance
• Participate in gathering data regarding the trainings (via instructing individuals who received this training in how to access and complete a feedback form)
• Model and provide guidance on use of short-term preventative interventions intended to prevent onset and escalation of OUD/SUD (i.e. providing psychoeducation regarding risk factors and screening outcomes, and encouraging follow-up on referrals to longer-term treatment)
o Interventions will include CBT, parent training, SBIRT, and motivational interviewing.
o Training will be available for trainers if they have currently knowledge in some but not all of these approaches.
Additional responsibilities:
This role may also include use of social media to provide information to the public. Conducting trainings in other settings and capacities may occasionally be required.
Note: This job will entail travel to various school sites, with the majority of work taking place in the school setting.
Required qualifications and experience:
• 2+ years of experience developing and delivering mental health, developmental disability, and/or addiction-related training programs
• Strong understanding of mental health policies, evidence-based interventions (CBT or MI or parent training), and community resources
• Experience working with children, particularly in school settings
• Individuals with clinical experience with financially disadvantaged communities are particularly encouraged to apply
• Ability to conduct in-person, virtual, and hybrid training sessions
• Experience in event coordination and public speaking
• Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills
• 3 or more years related professional experience, especially around training;
• Demonstrated data management and analysis skills
Preferred qualifications and experience:
• Experience with SBIRT
• Experience with MI
• Leadership experience
