Position Summary:
Cherryland VFW Post 2780 is seeking a dependable, hands-on Canteen Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our post canteen. This role is key to maintaining a welcoming, well-run environment that reflects our values of service, respect, and community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily canteen operations, including opening/closing procedures
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise bartenders and volunteers
- Maintain inventory, place orders, and manage vendor relationships
- Ensure compliance with Michigan liquor laws and VFW policies
- Handle cash management, basic bookkeeping, and sales tracking
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
- Support post events, live entertainment, and special functions
- Foster a friendly, inclusive atmosphere for members and guests
- Work closely with Post leadership and House Committee on budgeting and planning
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in bar, restaurant, or hospitality management
- ServSafe Manager or similar food and alcohol safety certification
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Michigan alcohol service regulations
- Experience with cash handling and inventory control
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Dependable, trustworthy, and community-minded
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with veterans organizations or nonprofit clubs
- Associate's degree in Culinary Arts
