Clinical Risk Manager

Hourly Pay Range: $42.54 - $65.94 Position: Clinical Risk Manager Location: Evanston, IL Full Time: 40 hours/week, Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with on‑call rotation every 6 weeks. Required Travel: Skokie, Glenview, Highland Park. Overview The Clinical Risk Manager reviews, investigates, and prioritizes reported clinical and organizational events to reduce the frequency and severity of patient safety events, works closely with Claims Management to identify potential or actual professional and general liability claims, and collaborates with the Performance Improvement team and Operational Leaders to identify key quality and patient safety trends. Responsibilities Review electronically reported events for inpatient units and procedural areas. Identify and assess potential risks and liabilities of reported events. Work with interdisciplinary teams to implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure timely resolution and communication. Ensure event follow‑up is timely and appropriate; plan and initiate key learning elements. Provide patient safety/risk management support for assigned areas, noting trends and delivering education. Collaborate to identify quality and patient safety issues requiring broader system review. Partner with organizational leaders and frontline staff to improve safety culture and processes. Educate all levels on early notification of patient safety events. Analyze experiential data and report trends to leadership. Serve as an advisor to physicians and administration on disclosure, documentation, and management of untoward outcomes. Coordinate communication of preventable untoward outcomes to key corporate individuals as per protocol. Participate in the peer review process and collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to conduct risk assessments. Promote patient safety and error prevention through evidence‑based practices. Investigate potential compensable events and work with Claims Management to discuss liability and causation. Process Notices of Claim (NOCs) for submission to the Third Party Administrator (TPA) promptly. Attend monthly Risk/Claims Management meetings at Endeavor Health hospital sites. Identify potential insurance claims, track, report, and coordinate resolution with legal and insurance attorneys. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and programs to reduce exposure to liability and financial risks. Assist the Compliance team with mitigating compliance issues as needed. Analyze data related to risk management, incidents, and claims to identify trends and areas for improvement. Provide training and education on risk management, patient safety, and legal considerations. Support emergency preparedness leaders and respond to plans to ensure hospital readiness. Takes on‑call 24/7 on a rotating basis and travels to Endeavor Health hospitals as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Health Administration or Nursing required. 5+ years clinical experience and at least 2 years in patient safety / risk management or clinical leadership. Experience with Epic and RL Solutions preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact confidently and professionally with all levels of the organization. Strong investigative and analytical skills. Conflict resolution and mediation skills. Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations and priorities.
