Job Summary: Prepare, administer and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic and tracer studies utilizing a variety of radioisotope equipment. Prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate and administer doses. Subject patients to radiation as prescribed by the Radiologist. Essential Functions: Consistently uses an outward mindset and puts forth exemplary effort in accomplishing his/her goals and objectives in a manner that helps others to achieve their goals and objectives. Calculates, measures and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computers and following physician’s prescription. Detects and maps radiopharmaceuticals in patients’ bodies, using a camera to produce photographic or computer images. Explains test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures. Administers radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of physician. Produces a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician. Disposes of radioactive materials and stores radiopharmaceuticals following radiation safety procedures. Prepares stock radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients. Maintains and calibrates radioisotope and laboratory equipment. Gathers information on patients’ illness and medical history to guide the choice of diagnostic procedures for therapy. Measures glandular activity, blood volume, red cell survival, and radioactivity of patient using scanners, Geiger-counters, scintillometers and other laboratory equipment. Train and supervise student of subordinate nuclear medicine technologists. Minimum Qualifications: ARRT(N) or NMTCB registered or equivalent state license for nuclear medicine technology or completion of a training program in nuclear medicine. BLS from American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of anatomy/physiology, the disease process, quality control in the Nuclear Medicine Department and documenting/recording information. The ability to inspect equipment and materials for defects, build interpersonal relationships, use a personal computer and solve and solve complex problems. Must also have knowledge of radiation safety and protection, handling of radiopharmaceuticals, all aspects of performing examinations, operation of equipment, handling of medical and radioactive waste, patient safety, and applicable rules and regulations. Must demonstrate competency in administration of radioactive tracers and pharmacological stress agents. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements : The position requires an ability to exert force and lift objects of 50 pounds routinely. Must have full use of arms, wrists and shoulders and be able perform simple motor skills for unrestricted time periods, including pushing, pulling, bending and stooping. Must be able to stand 80% of the time, reach and work overhead. Perform manipulative skills needed to position and assist patients. Perform tasks requiring eye-hand coordination such as venipuncture. Require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials. Marshall, 200 N.
