Project Manager – Data Center Electrical Commissioning

This role leads on-site project coordination for custom-engineered electrical equipment at large-scale data center construction and subcontractor facilities. You will oversee field commissioning activities, manage contractors and third-party testing partners, and ensure all electrical systems are installed, tested, and documented according to project requirements, safety standards, and schedule milestones.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day field activities on site, working closely with customers, contractors, third-party testing companies, and internal teams.
• Take daily project direction from the Senior Project Manager and translate it into clear, actionable tasks for all on-site stakeholders.
• Track project schedules, milestones, and punch lists, ensuring all items are completed accurately and on time.
• Monitor testing procedures for electrical equipment, including switchgear and related systems, and verify adherence to project specifications and safety standards.
• Escalate critical field issues promptly to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders to minimize risk and schedule impacts.
• Maintain comprehensive audit records, including reports, warranty documentation, photos, action logs, and all relevant project files.
• Prepare and deliver weekly progress reports that clearly communicate status, risks, and upcoming work to project leadership and clients.
• Oversee the mounting of equipment on skids and associated electrical testing at subcontractor facilities.
• Provide on-site leadership to field teams, contractors, and technicians, ensuring alignment with project goals and safety expectations.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and technical documentation to guide field installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Support project controls, including cost control, forecasting, and project coordination, to keep the project on budget and on schedule.
• Collaborate with construction management and field operations teams to resolve issues and optimize workflows.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and NFPA safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture on site.
• Use digital tools such as Excel, Teams, Outlook, and construction management platforms (including Bluebeam) to track progress and communicate effectively.
• Travel occasionally to related sites as needed to support commissioning and project coordination activities.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of experience in industrial construction, electrical field service, or commissioning.
• Prior experience as a general foreman, lead technician, or Project Manager in a field setting.
• Proven project management capabilities in construction or field operations environments.
• Demonstrated experience tracking schedules, milestones, and managing punch lists.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Outlook for reporting and communication.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to rent and operate a vehicle for site travel.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders on active construction and testing sites.
• Experience in civil construction or similar large-scale industrial projects.
• Knowledge of construction management, project controls, cost control, forecasting, and project coordination.

Preferred Skills (but not required)

• Previous experience as an electrical technician, general foreman, or electrical lead in industrial or data center environments.
• Experience with data center construction projects and commissioning of critical electrical infrastructure.
• Exposure to switchgear, motor control centers, and complex power distribution systems.
• Experience working with third-party testing companies and interpreting test reports.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• NFPA 70E training or certification.
• Experience using Bluebeam or similar construction management platforms.
• Experience in construction management or field operations for large industrial projects.
• Strong organizational skills for maintaining detailed records, documentation, and audit trails.
• Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and occasional night shifts.
• Comfort working in fast-paced, rapidly growing organizations with evolving processes.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a field-based leadership role with significant responsibility for safety, quality, and schedule.

Work Environment

• This role is primarily based on active construction and subcontractor sites associated with a large data center project in Texas.
• One Project Manager position is located at the new data center construction site in Hubbard, TX (approximately 30 minutes outside of Waco), where hundreds of construction trades and contractors are working concurrently and one of four planned buildings is already complete.
• Additional Project Manager roles are located at subcontractor facilities (including a site in Grapevine, TX and Monroe LA) where equipment is mounted on skids and undergoes electrical testing.
• You will occasionally travel to related sites as needed, with lodging, per diem, and rental car provided for required travel.
• The work schedule typically runs Monday through Saturday, 10–12 hours per day (position is paid hourly, not salary)
• OT, weekend work, and occasional night work are highly likely.
• You will collaborate closely with a field service management team based in Houston, operating in a hands-on, field-focused environment.
• Dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, and a work shirt.
• The environment combines active construction zones and indoor subcontractor facilities, requiring strong safety awareness and comfort working around heavy equipment, electrical systems, and ongoing commissioning activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
