CVOR Registered Nurse

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a CVOR Registered Nurse to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team dedicated to delivering advanced, compassionate cardiac surgical care. As a CVOR RN, you will function as a key member of a multidisciplinary cardiovascular surgical team, providing specialized perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing complex cardiac and vascular procedures in a high-acuity operating room environment. You will be responsible for circulating and, as appropriate, scrubbing for cardiovascular cases; ensuring strict adherence to sterile technique and infection prevention standards; preparing the operating room with appropriate cardiac surgical instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications; and collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and surgical technologists to support safe and efficient procedures.
In this role, you will complete thorough preoperative assessments, verify patient identity and consents, review relevant diagnostics, and anticipate patient and surgeon needs throughout each procedure. You will continuously monitor patient status, respond promptly to changes in condition, and document all aspects of care in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. You will support intraoperative hemodynamic management through coordination with anesthesia, assist with the use and troubleshooting of specialized CVOR equipment such as heart-lung bypass machines (in collaboration with perfusion), cardiac monitors, invasive lines, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and other advanced technologies, and help coordinate timely transitions of care to the ICU or step-down units.
The CVOR Registered Nurse at Mission Health plays a critical role in promoting patient safety through surgical time-outs, accurate counts of instruments and sponges, and consistent use of evidence-based practices. You will participate in quality improvement initiatives, contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, and support process enhancements to improve patient outcomes and OR efficiency. You will also provide emotional support and education to patients and families, explaining procedures, addressing concerns, and reinforcing postoperative care instructions in a compassionate, patient-centered manner.
