Intellectual Property Attorney

Cozen O’Connor is seeking a patent attorney with a strong background in the medical device space to join the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. Candidates will have a minimum of five years of experience and may sit in any of the following offices: Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle, or Washington, D.C., with some degree of remote work available.

The ideal candidate will have experience with a range of medical device technologies, including surgical devices for spine, knee, ankle as well as robotics-assisted devices and potentially cardiovascular tools. Experience drafting and prosecuting such medical device patent applications (both in the U.S. and worldwide); conducting freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses; performing due diligence; handling patent procurement services, and generally managing patent portfolios is essential. Ideal candidates will have an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in mechanical engineering; Ph.D. not required. An excellent academic record and strong analytical and writing skills are required. A license in good standing in the resident state and registration before the USPTO are also required.

The salary ranges for this role are listed below and represent the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and location.

• Minneapolis – $240,000-$290,000
• New York – $270,000-$320,000
• San Diego -$225,000-$275,000
• Seattle -$225,000-$275,000
• Washington, D.C. – $270,000-$320,000
