FP&A Manager

$115k - $130k
Full-time

Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (Global Energy Alliance) LLC

The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (Global Energy Alliance) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (Global Energy Alliance) works for a world where everyone has access to affordable, reliable, clean electricity and the means to use it to improve their lives. Our Alliance builds transformative public, private, philanthropic partnerships to end energy poverty and accelerate green economic opportunity. Founded in 2021 by The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, we design innovative projects/programs, unlock finance, strengthen institutions and transform markets, delivering progress anchored in deep community engagement. By uniting actors across the value chain, from households to heads of state, we go beyond individual projects to drive lasting systems change. With work in more than 30 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, our Alliance aims to reach 1 billion people with clean electricity, prevent 4 billion tons of carbon emissions and create or improve 150 million jobs.

The FP&A Manager will report to Managing Director Global Finance with a dotted line to Controller and work closely with the US finance team to ensure the efficient and accurate financial operation of the US entity. The FP&A Manager is a key member of the Finance team, responsible for strengthening the organization's financial planning, forecasting, reporting and analysis capabilities while supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the U.S. organization.

This is a hands-on role that combines financial planning and analysis, management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, and U.S. financial operations. The FP&A Manager will work closely with the CFO, finance leadership, program and operational leaders, fundraising, and global colleagues to ensure that financial information is accurate, timely and useful for decision-making. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable building a financial model, explaining a budget variance to a program leader, preparing a month-end journal entry, reconciling a bank account, and presenting financial insights to senior leadership.

As a global nonprofit, the Global Energy Alliance operates across multiple countries and programs. The FP&A Manager will therefore help connect U.S. financial reporting and operations with global planning, forecasting and resource allocation, and will collaborate effectively with colleagues across multiple time zones and cultural environments.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Work closely with MD Global Finance to lead the organization’s annual budgeting process in partnership with development, program, and operational leaders.
  • Build and maintain financial models covering revenue, personnel, operating expenses, programs, strategic initiatives, and portfolio deployment.
  • Partner with budget owners to develop realistic financial assumptions and monitor performance against approved budgets.
  • Prepare scenario analyses to support strategic decisions, including changes in funding, staffing, program activity and organizational priorities.
  • Analyze financial performance by country, region, program and/or funding source, and support consolidation of global financial information.

Financial Analysis & Management Reporting

  • Perform budget-to-actual and forecast-to-actual variance analysis and prepare financial reporting packages for all budget holders.
  • Identify key financial trends, risks, opportunities and drivers and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  • Work closely with MD Global Finance to develop dashboards and management reports that provide clear visibility into organizational financial performance.
  • Prepare financial presentations and analysis for the CFO, MD Global Finance, Leadership Team, and the Finance & Investment and Audit & Risk Committees of the Board as appropriate.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.

Financial close, reconciliations and reporting

  • Support the timely completion of the month-end, close in line with department and CFO deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly balance-sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts — including grant payables (grants schedule-- payables and lapses), payroll control accounts and benefits-related entries.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, ensuring reconciling items are documented and resolved on a timely basis.
  • Reconcile grants expense and grants payable between NetSuite and Salesforce and maintain grant roll forward schedules.
  • Prepare monthly payroll-related schedules, including health-insurance allocations, reclassify monthly bills by department in NetSuite, and reconcile Activpayroll withdrawals and BRI FSA prepaid-plan accounts to bank statements and funding reports.
  • Prepare, review and/or coordinate recurring and non-recurring month-end journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, allocations and other adjustments.
  • Support the AP process when AP Manager is out of the office

Grants, funding and compliance support

  • Proactively support the Gants Management team including expense allocations and financial / compliance KPIs (burn rate, unspent balance, and similar).
  • Lead in calculating GEA's direct and indirect rates based on audited financial statements.
  • Assist MD Global Finance in preparing funding applications for prospective funders.
  • Support implementation of financial controls to safeguard organizational assets and data integrity.
  • Support other administrative and compliance efforts, including regulatory filings.
  • Track grant budgets, expenditures and funding utilization, and analyze the financial implications of grant-funded programs, PIC and PRIs.

Revenue & Funding Forecasting

  • Partner with Fundraising leadership to forecast contributed revenue, grants and other funding sources.
  • Monitor actual revenue against forecast and identify changes in timing, probability or funding levels.
  • Develop revenue scenarios based on donor commitments, grant pipelines and historical trends, and assess the impact of changes in funding on organizational liquidity and program plans.
  • Provide leadership with early visibility into potential funding risks and opportunities.

State registrations and external compliance (Grant Thornton)

  • Maintain a GEA Inc registration tracker (building on Grant Thornton's tracker) to hold key compliance data in one place, updated quarterly.
  • Work with Grant Thornton to manage state registrations and annual renewals, ensuring annual reports and renewals are filed on time and coordinating internally so GT receives what it needs.

Audit readiness

  • Support the work with auditors, external advisers, the US-based Director / Controller and MD Global Finance to prepare the annual and year-end audit process.
  • Own the completeness and accuracy of assigned reconciliations.
  • Maintain audit-ready records for 100% of assigned accounts, ensuring reconciliations and supporting files are complete, organized and saved in designated folders each month — including manual checks and accounts receivable for contributions, lapse, refunds and employee reimbursements.
  • Submit all assigned annual audit requests, samples and supporting documents by the requested deadlines.

Systems, Reporting & Data

  • Maintain and enhance financial models, reporting tools and planning templates, and develop standardized reporting and analytical tools for budget owners.
  • Work with NetSuite, Salesforce and future budgeting systems to improve financial reporting and planning, ensuring consistency between accounting data, planning models and management reporting.
  • Explore automation and business intelligence solutions to reduce manual processes and improve financial visibility.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of financial policies and procedures.

Core responsibilities are outlined above; however, our team operates dynamically. You will have the opportunity to take on additional projects/tasks and adapt your duties to support overall company growth and priorities.

  • Proven experience working effectively and autonomously as part of a team.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling and variance analysis.
  • Ability to explain financial information to non-financial colleagues, and to manage competing priorities and meet recurring monthly deadlines.
  • Experience with multi-currency financial reporting or forecasting.
  • Experience with systems such as Adaptive Planning, Planful, Anaplan or similar, and with Power BI, Power Query M codes, Power Pivot, DAX Measures and formulas, SOL, Tableau or other financial visualization tools.
