HORTICULTURE TECHNICIAN

Job Details Job Location: Mechanicsville, VA 23111 Covenant Woods, an upscale senior living community in Mechanicsville, VA, is seeking a Part‑Time Horticulture Technician to support our innovative Farm‑to‑Table Program. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sustainable gardening, plant care, and working in a community‑oriented environment. Key Responsibilities Land preparation: Seedbed prep, installing weed barriers and fencing. Crop care: Sowing, transplanting, weeding, and pest/disease control. Irrigation: Installing and managing irrigation systems. Harvesting & Storage: Harvesting produce, weighing yields, and storing products appropriately. Record keeping: Maintaining logs, inventory of tools/equipment, and collecting basic field data. Resident & Volunteer Engagement: Assisting with community garden activities and working alongside volunteers. Qualifications Education: High school diploma required; college coursework in horticulture, agriculture, or related field preferred. Experience: Hands‑on experience with crop management, soil preparation, irrigation, pest control, and light equipment operation. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to guide and work collaboratively with volunteers, students, and staff. Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with organic or sustainable farming practices (certification not required). Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
