Student Employee, Math Department

Assist the Math Department Secretary with a variety of tasks to promote and enhance student learning. Tasks include keeping classrooms stocked, organizing materials for instructors, and assisting with day-to-day operations.

REPORTS TO: Math Department Secretary

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

MINIMUM PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour (Position is FWS Eligible)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Survey math classrooms on a weekly basis and stocking them as needed.
• Photocopying.
• Answering multiple phone lines, forward messages.
• Directing visitors.
• Proofreading exams and other course materials.
• Distributing mail to approximately 40 professors, adjunct faculty and staff.
• Maintaining text and supply inventories.
• Special projects including the I.C.T.M. Regional and JJC Invitational math contests.
• Distribution of developmental final exams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be enrolled at JJC in at least 6 credit hours in fall/spring semester.
• Maintain GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to type and proofread well.
• Problem-solving abilities, discretion, and a willingness to accept responsibility.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge of MS Office.
• Self-starter who can organize daily workload effectively.
• English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
• Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Normal office physical demands.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
