The Customer Service Representative performs routine and complex clerical and customer service duties while assisting patients, family members, visitors, and clinic personnel. This position is responsible for addressing billing-related questions, verifying insurance information, resolving patient account issues, and providing courteous and professional service. The Customer Service Representative performs routine and complex clerical and customer service duties while assisting patients, family members, visitors, and clinic personnel. This position is responsible for addressing billing-related questions, verifying insurance information, resolving patient account issues, and providing courteous and professional service. Required Skills
- Knowledge of medical billing and collections practices.
- Basic understanding of medical coding.
- Strong computer and data-entry skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to interact courteously and professionally with patients and staff.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred.
Required:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in billing and collections.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or 7 years of billing and collections experience.
- 2 years of experience in billing and collections.
- Experience, certification, or proficiency with EPIC applications.
- Receive and resolve patient inquiries and complaints related to insurance and billing.
- Initiate accurate account adjustments and follow billing issues through resolution.
- Respond to correspondence regarding billing questions and assist patients with appropriate financial arrangements.
- Verify insurance status, eligibility, and patient account information.
- Assist patients with billing questions and update insurance information as needed.
- Forward billing information to appropriate insurance carriers to ensure timely and accurate payment.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable insurance carriers and billing procedures.
- Reconcile refund accounts, attach required documentation, and forward information for processing.
- Review credit statements to ensure refunds are issued to the correct recipients.
- Protect patient protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA, state and federal regulations, and organizational policies.
- Maintain a safe and professional environment while following applicable safety practices.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred.
- Ability to actively participate in staff meetings and team discussions.
