Temporary Conservation Biologist II AIS Program 7 month, Fisheries Division

Job Duties Conduct watercraft inspections on assigned waterbodies and complete boat decontaminations as part of the statewide Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program. Sample assigned waterbodies for Zebra Mussel early detection. Educate the public to prevent the spread and introduction of AIS. Assist the AIS Program Manager and Biologist with AIS detection surveys, sample collections and control treatments. Sample waterbodies for aquatic plants. During spring and fall, conduct field collections of fish community data using boat electrofishing, trap nets, gill nets and seines; perform aquatic habitat assessments; and complete other fisheries‑related work on area reservoirs, lakes, rivers, and streams. Perform equipment maintenance, outdoor education programs, and other related responsibilities as assigned by the AIS Program Manager and area Fisheries staff. Work weekends, holidays, and in adverse weather conditions. Requirements / Qualifications Minimum of one year experience or one year of coursework/training in fisheries management, natural resources, biology, and/or agriculture. Post‑high school coursework/training equivalent to five semester hours in fisheries management, wildlife management, natural resources, and/or biology and twelve months of experience in wildlife, recreation, or fisheries management. Driver’s license required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities General knowledge of aquatic ecology, fisheries management and/or aquatic invasive species. Good communication and public interaction/customer service skills. Ability to maintain simple records and complete surveys on a tablet. Ability to operate hand and power tools, including a heated pressure washer. Ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License if needed. Ability to operate a pickup with trailer as well as a motorboat.
