Position Summary Advocates for victim needs throughout prosecution, serving as a liaison between victims of crimes and the court system. Networks with all Tribal Departments and other local or state services to stabilize victims. Provides emergency support for victims and/or secondary victims. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for completing intake while establishing and maintaining contact with victim(s). Establish risk assessment and analyze victim safety issues. Conduct directed interviews in person and telephonically to obtain relevant information from person(s) in crisis. Responsible for providing crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, elder abuse, child abuse and other crimes. Services might include accompaniment to Tribal and outside jurisdictional courts, shelters and medical facilities. If qualified, may be asked to testify as an expert witness in Tribal Court for bench and jury trials as necessary. Offer testimony in court as required and/or necessary regarding criminal and civil cases, including no contact orders and orders of protection. Serve as presenter and facilitator at conferences, trainings, and other venues addressing domestic violence, sexual abuse, elder abuse, child abuse, other crimes, and Tribal and cultural issues. Conduct in-house trainings with other Tribal Departments on domestic violence, sexual abuse, elder abuse, child abuse, and other crimes with a court focus as necessary. Responsible for working independently while managing a diverse and fluctuating caseload. Maintain and secure active and inactive cases independent of Prosecutor’s documentation. May be responsible for 24/7 availability by telephone for support, information and crisis intervention to law enforcement and victims inclusive of holidays, evenings and weekends. Responsible for reviewing incident reports, complaints and referrals from law enforcement and prosecutor. Responsible for understanding case files, reports, law, and Tribal Codes. Attend meetings, trainings and conferences related to domestic violence, sexual abuse, elder abuse and child abuse education and issues. Develop and maintains ethical and professional relationships with other Tribal agencies and departments and key vendors in an effort to obtain added value to the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Responsible for establishing and maintaining appropriate data collection and record keeping while facilitating accurate dissemination to grantors. Responsible for generating quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reporting to grant coordinator and director for funding agencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. A.) from four‑year college or university in a related field and a minimum of three years of experience in a Domestic Violence and/or Social Service field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Extensive knowledge and experience in a crisis intervention, counseling techniques, criminal justice system, domestic violence advocacy and assessment of safety needs. Experience and knowledge using word processing and spreadsheets (i.e. Word for Windows, Excel etc.). Language Skills Ability to conduct in‑person or phone interviews to obtain and convey relevant information from and to persons in crisis. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. License and Certificates Must have a valid and unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License. Driver’s License must not contain any restrictions that would otherwise prevent an employee from driving a GSA vehicle. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to be culturally sensitive in a diverse community. Must submit to and be able to pass a criminal background check prior to employment and periodically throughout employment. Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times. Required to respond outside of normal business hours.
