Academic Interventionist

The Middle School Reading Specialist (RTI/MTSS) provides targeted academic support to ensure all students meet grade-level expectations and demonstrate growth toward proficiency. Working in collaboration with teachers, families, students, and support staff, the specialist designs, delivers, and monitors effective interventions in literacy. The position plays a key role in implementing a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) aligned with OCSU and state expectations. ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assessment and Identification Conduct diagnostic, formative, and benchmark assessments to identify student needs across academic domains. Use multiple data sources to design individualized and small-group intervention plans. Participate in school-level data meetings Act as the school-based EST coordinator and coordinate EST meetings to review student progress and determine next steps. 2. Intervention Design and Delivery Provide Tier 3 research-based interventions in literacy. Deliver both push-in and pull-out support aligned with core instruction. Develop and implement lesson plans that address specific learning gaps and build foundational skills. Integrate SEL and executive function strategies within intervention lessons. Maintain accurate records of interventions and student progress in EduClimber or other data systems. 3. Collaboration and Consultation Partner with classroom teachers, counselors, special educators, and paraprofessionals to coordinate interventions. Contribute to the design of school-wide intervention systems and schedules. Communicate regularly with families about student progress and at-home support strategies. Provide coaching or professional learning to staff on effective intervention and progress monitoring practices. 4. Equity and Inclusion Promote equitable access to learning by addressing barriers to student success. Advocate for inclusive practices and support culturally responsive instruction. Engage in reflective practice to ensure interventions meet the diverse needs of all learners. 5. Data Management and Reporting Collect, analyze, and report student progress data to inform instructional decisions. Use data to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for improvement. Prepare reports for school leadership and contribute to continuous improvement processes. 6. Professional Learning and Growth Participate in OCSU professional learning communities, collaborative inquiry (CI), and MTSS team meetings. Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen intervention practice, coaching, and data literacy. Contribute to a culture of shared responsibility for student growth and achievement.
