Store Assistant Manager – Torrance Store Job Category: Thrift Stores – all positions Requisition Number: STORE023184 Job Type: Full-Time Location: LB Torrance Store 5, Torrance, CA 90505, USA Overview As Store Assistant Manager, you will partner with the Store Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Salvation Army thrift store, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient store processes, and compliance with mission and safety standards. Responsibilities Partner with the Store Manager on daily store operations including opening/closing procedures, sales, inventory, and donation processing. Assume full responsibility for day-to-day operations, staff, and cash handling in the absence of the Store Manager. Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to drive sales and profitability, reporting findings to Command Retail Directors. Schedule employees, coordinate team meetings, and maintain accurate payroll and attendance records. Recruit, train, and coach staff to ensure proficiency, performance, and development. Address personnel issues, issue disciplinary actions, and conduct performance reviews with HR and sellers. Deliver outstanding customer and donor service, maintaining community relations and improving service strategies. Support Back Room Processing (BRP) operations to meet daily goals. Supervise and report on program Beneficiaries in Work Therapy Assignments. Secure store currency, inventory, and property; manage safe funds, bank deposits, and daily cash deposits. Maintain safety measures, report incidents, conduct weekly store meetings, and attend monthly safety meetings. Assist with special projects and respond to business needs, including possible relocation. Complete all assigned tasks from District Sales Manager and Command Administration. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum 2 years of retail management or supervisory experience (thrift preferred). Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Valid driver’s license, pass MVR report, and proof of vehicle insurance. Background check clearance (criminal history and sex offender registry). Excellent communication skills with management, staff, customers, and donors. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and move objects such as carts, racks, and furniture. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Perform repetitive motion tasks.
