Facilities Technician HVAC Technician, 2nd Shift Industrial Systems

This role focuses on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial HVAC and environmental control systems that support large-scale manufacturing and hangar operations. Working on the second shift in an industrial setting, you will perform preventative and corrective maintenance on DX systems and rooftop units, ensuring reliable temperature, humidity, and airflow control in mission-critical environments. The position is intended to convert to a full-time permanent role, offering a stable long-term opportunity for an experienced HVAC professional.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial and commercial HVAC systems that support large-scale manufacturing and hangar operations.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC mechanical and control systems, including DX systems and rooftop units, to keep equipment operating within required performance standards.
• Work primarily on large-scale air handling units (AHUs), make-up air units, exhaust systems, and environmental control systems, while not being responsible for chillers or boilers in most cases.
• Clean, inspect, calibrate, and replace HVAC components to maintain systems at optimum performance levels.
• Monitor HVAC system performance, record operational readings, and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation and environmental conditions.
• Troubleshoot HVAC controls, sensors, actuators, and automation interfaces to identify and resolve system malfunctions efficiently.
• Coordinate and oversee contracted HVAC maintenance and specialty service providers to ensure quality and timely completion of work.
• Maintain responsibility for preventative maintenance programs, including scheduling, documentation, and continuous improvement of maintenance practices.
• Manage inventory control for HVAC-related parts, tools, and materials, and maintain accurate technical documentation for all systems.
• Comply with departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain a clean, safe, and organized workplace.
• Perform periodic checks, calibration, and maintenance of tools and instrumentation used for HVAC diagnostics and repairs.
• Work on a second-shift schedule from Monday to Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break, and participate in weekend and overtime work as needed, including volunteer shifts on Saturdays and Sundays when requested in advance.
• Perform physical tasks such as bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, standing, reaching, and working at heights to access HVAC equipment in various locations.
• Adapt to working in environments that may be exposed to heat, cold, noise, and both day and night-time conditions as required by facility operations.

Essential Skills

• 68 years of experience maintaining and repairing industrial or commercial HVAC systems.
• Strong ability to analyze HVAC system operation, diagnose malfunctions, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting repairs on HVAC systems, including DX systems and rooftop units.
• Working knowledge of industrial HVAC systems and controls.
• Working knowledge of chilled water, hot water, and DX systems.
• Understanding of air distribution and pressurization systems in industrial or commercial facilities.
• Proven ability to read and interpret HVAC drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and technical manuals.
• Experience supporting continuous-operation or mission-critical facilities where environmental control is essential to production and asset protection.
• EPA 608 Type II Certification.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, reporting, and basic data analysis.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, standing, reaching, and working at heights to access equipment.
• Ability to work second shift (MondayFriday, 2:30 p.m.11:00 p.m.) and support weekend and overtime work when needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• EPA 608 Universal Certification is preferred.
• EPA Type I or II certification is highly valued for candidates with experience focused on DX systems and rooftop units.
• Direct experience with LG, VG, and Dycon HVAC systems used in industrial or aerospace environments is a strong plus.
• Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC controls integration.
• State-recognized HVAC mechanical or industrial license.
• Two years of technical or trade school training in HVAC, refrigeration, or mechanical systems.
• Experience in electrical and facilities maintenance related to HVAC systems.
• Comfort working in environments exposed to heat, cold, and noise, and in large industrial or hangar facilities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate maintenance records and technical documentation.
• Ability to coordinate with external contractors and specialty service providers in a professional and efficient manner.

Work Environment

The role is based in an industrial and aerospace-oriented facility in Mobile, Alabama, supporting large-scale manufacturing and hangar operations. You will work on second shift from Monday to Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. Weekend work and overtime may be required when facility needs arise, with Saturday and Sunday shifts typically requested in advance on a volunteer basis. The environment includes large air handling units, make-up air units, exhaust systems, and other industrial HVAC equipment, with frequent work at heights and in mechanical spaces. You may be exposed to varying temperatures, including heat and cold, as well as operational noise typical of industrial and hangar settings, during both day and night-time hours. The facility emphasizes safe handling and storage of hazardous materials, clean and orderly work areas, and proper use and periodic inspection of tools and instrumentation. Work attire should be appropriate for an industrial maintenance setting, allowing for safe movement, use of personal protective equipment, and comfortable performance of physically demanding tasks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
