Job description

Role Purpose

Support our surgeons and patients before, during, and after procedures by providing safe, skilled, and compassionate nursing care. The Surgical Assist RN plays a critical role in the patient experience by helping each procedure run smoothly, keeping patients comfortable and informed, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and sterile technique.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Procedure Preparation

• Greet and prepare patients for surgery, including reviewing history, medications, and allergies
• Verify consents, patient identity, and procedure details before each case
• Take and record vital signs and complete pre-procedure assessments
• Set up the procedure room, instruments, and supplies

Intra-Procedure Assistance

• Assist the surgeon throughout procedures, anticipating needs and supporting smooth workflow
• Maintain a sterile field and follow strict infection control practices
• Monitor patient status and respond promptly to any changes or concerns
• Handle instruments, specimens, and supplies accurately

Post-Procedure Care

• Monitor patients during recovery and provide comfort and reassurance
• Review discharge and aftercare instructions clearly with patients and family members
• Communicate patient status and any concerns to the surgeon

Documentation & Safety

• Document care accurately and completely in the patient record
• Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
• Clean, reprocess, and restock instruments and procedure rooms as directed
• Help maintain emergency readiness and equipment checks

Qualifications

• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
• Operating room, perioperative, or ambulatory surgery experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection control
