Data Product Manager

The Data Product Manager will bridge the gap between complex campus data and actionable operational solutions. In this role, the incumbent will work closely with campus stakeholders and end-users to uncover high-impact challenges and envision modern data products to solve them. Information Technology Solutions' (ITS) data portfolio spans reporting, advanced analytics, self-service data access platforms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence initiatives. The Data Product Manager will champion the end-to-end lifecycle of ITS data products—taking solutions from initial scoping and rapid wireframing to agile development, launch, and long-term maintenance. This position will be hands-on in creating mockups and prototypes to co-create solutions alongside users, while also authoring clear user stories for development teams. Beyond product vision, the incumbent will oversee day-to-day operations for campus data governance.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required

6 - 10 years of related experience. Required

3 - 5 years of demonstrable experience within the data and analytics domain - either as a Data/Technical Product Manager, Data Analyst, BI Developer, Software Engineer, or power end-user consuming complex analytics. Required

Proven experience managing or contributing to the lifecycle of technical or data products (from ideation and scoping to build, release, and maintenance). Required

Direct experience with data governance operations, metadata management, data quality frameworks, or data stewardship. Preferred

Must pass a background check. Required

Occasional travel for university related business meetings, conferences and/or professional development. Required

Travel Outside of Normal Business Hours. Required

Advanced knowledge of business and process analysis functions.

Advanced knowledge of related areas of IT.

Knowledge relating to the design of processes and software across the organization.

Advanced skills and methodologies associated with process and software design, modification and implementation.

Demonstrated skills needed to develop process and system implementation plans.

Demonstrated experience with process analysis, systems analysis, process architectures and systems analysis methodologies and practices including traditional waterfall, Agile, Agile Scrum, UML, UML Enterprise, et cetera.

Understanding and skill in complex process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.

Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.

Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills.

Advanced knowledge of business processes and procedures.

Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.

Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; adept at translating complex technical/data concepts for non-technical stakeholders and business needs for engineering teams.

Proficiency in producing mockups, wireframes, or functional prototypes to collaborate with users and discover final requirements.

Exposure to products incorporating Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), automated reporting, or modern data stack architectures.

Strong capacity to apply advanced business analysis principles to complex, unstructured institutional problems.

Demonstrated ability to write clear user stories with explicit acceptance criteria, manage product backlogs, and work effectively within Agile development frameworks.
