Job Title: Welder III Job Description

This Welder III role supports manufacturing and refurbishment operations by performing highly precise welding using hand welding equipment and multiple welding processes. You will work extensively on turbocharger rotors and internal components, including cleaning, measuring, and assessing parts for repair or replacement. The position also involves fabricating turbocharger stands for shipment and balancing rotating assemblies, all while maintaining strict quality and safety standards in a production and overhaul environment.

• Use templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify, and fabricate components and repairs.
• Operate hand tools to cut, drill, bore, tap, ream, shape, and grind metal parts as required.
• Perform cleaning of turbocharger rotors and internal components to prepare them for inspection, repair, or overhaul.
• Measure rotor components, nozzle rings, compressor wheels, and related parts to determine whether they require repair or replacement.
• Fabricate turbocharger stands and related fixtures for shipment and handling of assemblies.
• Balance rotating assemblies to meet performance, safety, and quality requirements.
• Ensure all work is performed safely, exercising care to avoid damage to tools, equipment, and components.
• Manage metals during welding to prevent distortion, burns, and other defects while meeting specified dimensions, tolerances, strengths, and technical requirements.
• Perform welding with an exceptionally high degree of skill so that welds meet stringent radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle imaging, and other testing standards as required by engineering.
• Set up, troubleshoot, and operate welding machines according to job specifications and approved welding procedures.
• Preheat and weld metal components following blueprints, welding symbols, job specifications, and welding procedures.
• Operate air arc gouging equipment, stress relieving machines, and other industry-standard tools and machinery used in welding and fabrication.
• Identify and repair substandard welds and perform corrective welding work as needed.
• Participate in manufacturing, production, refurbishing, and troubleshooting activities related to turbocharger overhauls for industrial machinery.
• Perform frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending, and other physical activities associated with shop work.
• Follow all safety policies, including the use of required personal protective equipment and adherence to facility procedures.
• Work overtime, nights, and weekends when required by workload and production schedules.
• Carry out other duties as assigned to support the overall operation of the shop.

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution.
• Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment, including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques.
• Proficiency in TIG welding, MIG welding, flux core welding, and general fabrication work.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols accurately.
• Capability to lift up to 45 pounds on a regular basis.
• Comfort working in a manufacturing environment where noise and dust are present.
• Consistent use of safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear protection as required.
• Ability to perform frequent physical activities such as pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, and bending.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends based on workload needs.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure to support measurement and fabrication tasks.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for clear documentation and collaboration.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members across the shop.
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and stay self-directed in a production environment.

• Experience in overhauling and refreshing turbochargers for industrial machinery.
• Experience operating a forklift, hand truck, and other material-handling equipment relevant to shop duties.
• Leadership skills that support mentoring, coordination, and contributing positively to team performance.
• Self-motivated approach with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for work quality.
• Experience in stainless steel and aluminum welding and fabrication.
• Background in production welding and high-volume manufacturing or refurbishment operations.
• Familiarity with stress relieving processes and inspection methods such as radiographic, ultrasonic, and magnetic particle testing.

The role is based in a manufacturing and production setting focused on refurbishing, troubleshooting, and overhauling turbochargers for industrial machinery. The operation includes a small shop environment, with approximately 20 employees at the Salina location and a 12-person shop at the McPherson facility, fostering close collaboration among team members. You will work around noise, dust, and active machinery, using welding equipment, air arc gougers, stress relieving machines, hand tools, and material-handling equipment such as forklifts and hand trucks. The position involves regular lifting up to 45 pounds and frequent physical movements including pushing, pulling, stretching, and bending. Standard personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear plugs is required, and work hours may include overtime, nights, and weekends depending on production needs.

This is a Permanent position based out of McPherson, KS.

The pay range for this position is $54080.00 - $66650.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
