Machine Shop Supervisor
The Machine Shop Supervisor directs and coordinates activities of the CNC Machining Department in safety, materials management, productivity / job / work order management, scheduling and personnel management. The Machine Shop Supervisor prepares work schedules and delegates workflow along with ensuring machine function and output are in accordance with specifications and quality standards. The Machine Shop Supervisor monitors and evaluates production records and reports findings to management. Along with training machine operators and machinists. Essential duties and responsibilities include overseeing daily functions of the CNC Machining department, providing all personnel with work assignments and maintaining a constant work level, working directly with personnel to provide instruction and guidance, identifying training needs and providing training where required, verifying that all previous operations have been signed off before assigning a job, scheduling jobs to run by priorities set on the production board coordinating with the production manager to maintain a smooth workflow, making sure that new jobs for the CNC machines are programmed and special tooling for any job is identified and ordered in advance, identifying problems with production / quality and being prepared to identify the root cause of any of these problems, training department personnel in basic quality procedures, work instructions, and documents that pertain to your department, verifying that all first piece inspections are performed and approved, ensuring all department personnel keep their work area and machines clean, coolant levels up, chips from removed from their machines and areas at the end of their shift and when their job is finished, responsible for verifying that all company inspection equipment and tools in the department are in calibration, ensuring that all jobs are identified with a job number, adhering to all safety policies and ensuring proper eye and hearing protection is used by all team members under their supervision, responsible for team member clocking and timecard review, performing all functions of the job while adhering to established quality policies and procedures, upholding the company core values, and other duties as assigned.
Supervisory responsibilities include directly supervising team members in the CNC Machining department, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training team members, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining team members, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications to perform this job successfully include the ability to operate the various machines within the department with minimal instruction, the ability to read and understand drawings, blueprints and specifications, good leadership skills and the capability of training team members, the capability of programming when called upon, the capability of working with minimal supervision, excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to be adaptable to a changing work environment and competing demands.
Reasoning abilities include prioritizing activities and working under pressures at all times, complying with safety standard procedures, being able to differentiate between a symptom and a root of the problem, being open to change and improvements, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Physical demands include standing, walking, and hearing regularly, using hands and fingers frequently, handling, feeling, and reaching with hands and arms, sitting occasionally, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and smelling. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, hot and/or cold work environment chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, loud noises, risk of electrical shock and vibration, low and high temperatures, and other occupational hazards; personal protective equipment may be required.

Education and/or experience required include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language skills include the ability to speak and understand basic safety and manufacturing instructions. Mathematical skills include the ability to add and subtract decimals out to 4 places and the ability to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
