Job Opportunity

Position Summary

This role is focused on providing essential nursing care to both non-acute and acutely ill residents while ensuring a safe and clean environment. The ideal candidate will be capable of responding calmly and making sound judgments during emergencies or when caring for patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain nursing data through resident interviews and observations under the direction of a Licensed Nurse (LN).
• Document observations accurately and in accordance with care plans.
• Provide general nursing care to adult and geriatric populations, including:



• Assisting with personal hygiene (e.g., bathing, oral care, grooming).
• Managing the application of heat and cold therapies, and anti-embolism stockings.
• Monitoring and recording vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
• Collecting and transporting clinical specimens.
• Report any abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to the LN.
• Deliver bedside care which includes:
• Positioning, lifting, and turning residents.
• Assisting with toileting and meal consumption.
• Caring for residents' personal belongings.
• Maintaining cleanliness in patient areas and changing bed linens.
• Support the LN in preparing residents for departmental transport.
• Provide one-on-one care for residents as necessary to ensure their safety.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by:
• Preparing nursing areas for new admissions and transfers.
• Cleaning utility areas and equipment.
• Reporting equipment malfunctions and maintaining inventory of supplies.
• Following protocols for waste disposal.

Additional Responsibilities for Critical Access Hospital

• Obtain 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs) and perform telemetry monitoring for patients.
• Serve as a Point of Care Trainer after completing the appropriate training program.
• Cross-train in additional hospital areas for staffing flexibility.
• Participate in Performance/Process Improvement projects within the unit.
• Act as a preceptor for new CNA staff and students.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
• Current full, unrestricted CNA license in Alaska.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Willingness to undertake training specific to unit needs.

Location

This position is located in a Critical Access Hospital in Alaska.
