Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Rio Grande Valley Sector, Law Enforcement Operations Division located in Rio Grande City, TX. Learn more about CBP's mission, core values and careers at In this position, you will provide comprehensive administrative, workforce, fleet, property, and facilities support to ensure sector operations run efficiently and in compliance with policy. This support directly enables the U.S. Border Patrol to sustain its personnel, assets, and infrastructure so frontline law enforcement operations can effectively carry out the agency's mission. This position starts at a salary of $50,460.00 (GS-7, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS-9, Step 10). As a Mission Support Specialist (Generalist), you will be responsible for providing a wide range of administrative, workforce, fleet, property, and facilities support services to meet operational needs of the sector. Typical duties of this assignment include:
- Assisting with conducting inventories and maintaining accurate property records for agency assets.
- Processing and updating documentation related to personal property, including lost, stolen, destroyed, or missing items.
- Organizing and maintaining supply rooms and storage areas to support effective property and supply management.
- Preparing, processing, and routing administrative reports and forms, including those required for property disposal and equipment repair.
- Coordinating and tracking equipment repairs, service requests, and related documentation in accordance with agency guidelines.

- Assisting with processing personnel actions, transfers, and related documentation while developing knowledge of administrative procedures and workforce management.
- Supporting the maintenance and updating of employee records and organizational files using agency-approved electronic systems, under supervision.
- Participating in procurement activities by requesting quotes, preparing documents, and reconciling purchase card transactions, with guidance from senior staff.
- Providing support for time and attendance, payroll, budget, travel, and other administrative functions, gaining experience with established policies and procedures.
- Applying knowledge of administrative procedures and workforce management to process personnel actions, transfers, and related documentation.
- Utilizing agency-approved electronic systems to maintain and update employee records and organizational files.
- Researching suppliers, requesting quotes, preparing procurement documents, and reconciling purchase card transactions in accordance with agency guidelines.
- Assisting with time and attendance, payroll, budget, travel, and other administrative support functions using established policies and procedures.
- Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
- Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/20/2026.
