Outpatient Nurse

Overview The Outpatient Nurse (RN) is responsible for the provision of nursing care based on standards of care and professional nursing practice. The Outpatient Nurse is accountable for the outcomes of nursing care delivered in an outpatient setting that performs specialized procedures. Responsibilities Accompany patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams, performing and documenting vital signs, assisting with office procedures, preparing and administering medications with physician’s authorization, and drawing blood. Provide patient education regarding office policies, medications, management of disease, home treatments, and special diets. Retrieve lab and x‑ray reports, call in prescriptions, perform telephone triage, obtain referrals and authorizations, and complete medical forms. Order medical and office supplies, stock exam rooms, clean rooms and instruments, and dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards. Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation and other front‑office duties as assigned. Coordinate pre‑op work‑up including patient education. Contact patients prior to procedure to review pre‑op checklist and document communications. Draw up medications. Assist with patient preparation, including patient assessment/monitoring before, during, and after an outpatient procedure. Assist patient/family with post‑procedure instructions. Qualifications Education ADN Required, BSN Preferred. Experience General experience in a physician office setting Preferred. Skills and Abilities Ability to work with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare providers with a high level of customer service orientation. General proficiency with PC and computer knowledge. Phlebotomy skills and experience. Excellent communication skills and ability to multi‑task. Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse – South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required. Basic Life Support Certified – American Heart Association within 30Days Required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certified – American Heart Association Preferred. Physical Demand Light‑Medium Physical Demand.
