In addition to managing our 7 bed ICU you will be leading our group of Float Pool RNs and Techs, and provide cross-coverage for the Inpatient units. We have a great team looking for a strong clinical leader to bring best clinical practice to the bedside. A background with strong clinical skills in ICU is preferred. The nurse manager provides 24-hour operational accountability for their unit(s). Collaborates with the Nursing Director with oversight for designated unit, to develop and oversee the implementation and evaluation of programs and processes to provide necessary patient care services using appropriate resources. Inherent in the role is active involvement and leadership in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and improve service. Additionally, the Nurse Manager participates in the development of and implementation of care and performance standards to ensure that identified patient care needs and regulatory requirements are met and/or exceeded. Optimal patient care and cost effective management is maintained through utilization of data and information from quality assessment and standards monitoring. Supports and contributes to ongoing changes within the organization. The Nurse Manager is a role model for service excellence, nursing job satisfaction and empowerment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Unit Base Management/Leadership

• Is accountable for the care of patients, the practice of nursing, interdisciplinary collaboration and department/unit based operations.
• Is visible and accessible.
• Develops creative approaches to department/unit operations and staff development and encourages others to do the same.
• Manages conflict by addressing it at the source and in a calm manner.
• Ensures that supplies, equipment and appropriate resources are available for optimal patient care.
• Represents the discipline of nursing and their individual unit at the hospital-wide committees and initiatives.

Fiscal

• Works with the Director to prepare the annual operating budget including salaries and wages, supplies and expenses, along with capital requests, within the timeframe allotted; ensures budget compliance and where applicable provides variance explanations.
• Ensures that the optimal number of staff are available to safely and effectively care for patients, based on the standard for hours of care, taking into account patient acuity, level of staff skill and other relevant variables.
• Ensures that relevant areas are achieving productivity standards.
• Ensures that supplies are managed in a cost-effective manner.
• Provides justification for capital budget items, including a ROI for each item requested in collaboration with the director.
• Takes accountability for achieving volume and identifies strategies for continuous growth.

Quality and Safety

• Continuously monitor a variety of quality indicators, incident reports and patient satisfaction data.
• Analyzes data, identify areas of concern and develop initiatives to address those concerns.
• Engages in organizational initiatives and encourages staff to do the same.
• Provides feedback to staff regarding initiatives and opportunities for improvement.
• Ensures practice is consistent with hospital policies and standards and regulatory and accrediting agencies such as The Joint Commission.
• Implements and evaluates the National Patient Safety Goals (updated annually).
• Promotes continuous preparedness for regulatory review.
• Maintains a clean and safe environment.
• Ensures unit based infection control practices are maintained.
• Participates in unit based environmental rounds

Minimum Qualifications Required:

• BSN in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred.
• Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse Licensure required
• Five years of related work experience in area of nursing specialty (med/surg, critical care, etc.) with strong clinical skills.
• At least 1 year of supervisory/management experience required.
• Recent direct clinical leadership preferred.
• Advanced interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to deal with critical patient and personnel issues in a changing organizational climate.
• Analytical ability to solve clinical issues and conduct, or participate in, quality improvement, research and utilization activities.
• Demonstrated ability to manage unit in a fiscally responsible manner.
• AHA BLS Certification required or obtained within 30
