About Indiana Women's Prison: Indiana Women's Prison is a maximum-security facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 700 incarcerated adult females. As the oldest women's correctional facility in the United States, it serves individuals with diverse needs, including pregnant, elderly, youthful, medically complex, and high-profile incarcerated adult females. The facility features the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit, which supports family bonding and re-entry planning. Incarcerated individuals have access to mental health services, substance use treatment, domestic abuse programming, and educational opportunities. Programs focus on rehabilitation and building confidence for life after release. Staff support a safe, structured environment focused on healing and growth.

Role Overview

As a Correctional Lieutenant at the Indiana Women's Prison, you will be responsible for the emergency preparedness and response training of the various Indiana Department of Correction teams. You will be responsible for the management, supervision, and safety of the facility, incarcerated individuals, coworkers, and the general public. In addition, you must apply the IDOC and facility rules, policies, and procedures in a firm, fair, and consistent manner to both incarcerated individuals and subordinate staff. Work is diverse and varied. You must remain vigilant to all breaches of security and threats. In the event of an emergency, effective leadership must be immediately exhibited.

Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.

A Day in the Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Oversee daily inspections of the units.
• Track all incidents, properly vet, and report all incidents to the Operations Center.
• Lead assigned staff in maintaining the security and safety of offenders, buildings, and grounds.
• Follow all policies and procedures related to facility's operations and emergency preparedness.
• Provide input to supervisors on staff assignments, performance, corrective actions, and specific security issues with potential resolutions.
• Assist in identifying offender treatment needs and support programs for treatment and rehabilitation which may include encouraging offenders to accept professional assistance and treatment from staff as needed.
• Direct staff regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the facility.
• Act as shift supervisor directing and coordinating daily operations utilizing a team of Correctional Sergeants and Officers.
• Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
• Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
• Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

• Must test negative on all drug screenings.
• Thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices utilized in a correctional environment.
• Ability to work mandatory/voluntary overtime.

• Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear directions.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.

You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

• Ability to successfully complete all mandatory training including the DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
• A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 3+ years of experience in corrections, law enforcement or military law enforcement and 1 year experience as a correctional supervisory or supervisory training in related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
• Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
